Unfortunately, I would have to disagree. I would argue that a large portion of US Jews stopped paying attention during the Obama Administration's call for a settlement freeze, and have just been assuming that Obama is "anti-Israel" ever since. The fact that a close examination of his record shows that that is not true is besides the point. In multiple synagogues, all I hear is how bad Obama is for Israel. My response is typically to walk away instead of getting into an argument. Granted, I can't assume that the subset of observant Jews who I spend my time with is fully representative of the overall US Jewish population, but if it is, than I don't see a large portion of Jews voting for Obama.

John Yorke- God and the devil allah making a deal ?
Jehovah doesn't make deals with anyone especially his enemies.
It's His way or the Road Map to hell and that's where we're headed as the Syrians have tasted lately.

Exodus 23
“I will send My fear before you, I will cause confusion among all the people to whom you come, and will make all your enemies turn their backs to you. And I will send hornets before you, which shall drive out the Hamas, the Palestinians, and the ISM from before you. I will not drive them out from before you in one year, lest the land become desolate and the beasts of the field become too numerous for you. Little by little I will drive them out from before you, until you have increased, and you inherit the land
"You shall make no covenant with them, nor with their gods. They shall not dwell in your land, lest they make you sin against Me. For if you serve their gods, it will surely be a snare to you.”

Yes, Robert -and wouldn't it be very nice to have a fully-functional crystal ball at this stage?

But my feeling on the entire issue has always been that the problem should be returned back from whence it came.
It has been said many times that only the Israelis and the Palestinians themselves can reconcile their differences and then sign off on a mutually agreed settlement. If powerful nations outside the immediate area continue to become allied (or more allied) to one side or the other, even greater differences will be introduced into a region already chock-full with them, causing the prospects for peace to recede even further.

OK, we all know peace is not immediately possible, no matter who wins the presidential election in November. But, if these two communities are ever going to set themselves down and really come to a much better arrangement than the one they have now, that happy event will require some very creative moves on everyone's part.

It has also been said that only God, Jehovah and Allah combined can bring about peace to the Middle East.
If so, then unless the US election also has the power to confer on Mr. Romney or Mr. Obama the status of a god or, better still, three gods, the problem is unlikely to go away anytime soon.
,
Maybe the only answer is for us all to becomes gods ourselves. With so many of us elevated to that exalted state, what creative moves could we not then set in motion?

And just think what fun it would be.

John!

An idle observation (which may or may not contribute anything): Based on years of peering at the political scenes in various places--I have gotten the DISTINCT impression--that politicians are EXTRAORDINARY nimble--at conferring a God-like status--upon THEMSELVES!

1. I agree with your general take on this.

2. I fear that (whoever) chose (or stumbled into) making Israel an open "political" issue in the US--will have triggered LONG-TERM "unintended consequences"--that cannot now be "reasonably predicted" (which is why my first two word were "I fear").
