Is it fair to state that without noticing what caused the refugee problem in the first place as well as the fact that the United States in its history has done more to actively persecute a native people than Israel has. Israel has offered the Palestinians what they wanted more than once and yet the Palestinians continually rejected these offers. You also mention the fact that the IDF is willing to kill and hurt Palestinians, without mentioning the fact that terrorism is something instigated without IDF provocation. Also, what about the Hebron riots of 1929 and 1936, which were carried out by Palestinians and forced many Jews living there to abandon their property. Palestinians then went on to occupy the Jews' property. Zionism is a form of Nationalism, and therefore is entwined in what Israel is. Territory that is won in defensive or defense motivated wars, no matter what the International community says, is legally won. Wars waged offensively, as done by the United States against the Native Americans, should not be considered legal by your definition.

Zionism has inevitably become entwined with what Israel is. How good or bad that is , history will tell.
Zionism respect for "jews and non Jews alike" seems hazy, keeping in mind the mass expulsions of Palestinians from their homes in 1948, the ongoing settlement enterprise, and the apparent nonchalance with which the IDF is willing to kill and hurt Palestinians.
The IDF is an army used to defend Israel, and defend the territory It has occupied , and suppress a people who lived in what is now Israel. Is that Zionism?
