Dov, since my daughter Safra brought you to my attention I have followed your writings with interest. In my own writings I find the foolishness of Israeli sectarianism reflected in Who is a Jew drifting also into the Diaspora, excepting inclusion/exclusion based on degree of orthodox pedigree. A very dangerous trend which I do my best to counter on my blog on antisemitism.

I was particularly touched by your grandmother's description of "Jew" and and quoted in a response to one of my commentators.

"My grandmother, who survived Auschwitz, related to me that in concentration camp there were no sectors. No one spoke about irreligious Jews, traditional Jews, religious Jews, or ultra-Orthodox Jews. All experienced that hell together as one. The Nazis did not treat the Jews differently based on their sectors. They were all simply “Jews” – all bound by the same lot (an excerpt from Dov Lipman’s article, Why am running for Knesset with the Yesh Atid party, http://blogs.timesofisrael.com... knesset-with-the-yesh-atid-party/

Rabbi Lipman is an American haredi oleh and a Zionist and, as such, stands for an inclusive definition of Who is a Jew. We, in the apparent safety of our living rooms may sqabble over inclusion and exclusion. But in the eyes of the antisemite, a Jew is a Jew. And in the eyes of an antisemite with political power, “a Jew” includes those so defined in Nuremberg, 1935, as “mischlinge.”.

As yourself I blog on TOI, mostly US-Israel commentary. My main interest is, however, my JPost blog, Antisemitism and Jewish Survival, where I currently discuss the Leo Frank lynching in context to the history of American antisemitism. That article may be read at, http://blogs.jpost.com/content/foundations-holocaust-american-antisemitism-and-lynching-leo-max-frank.

I don't reside in Israel and so cannot vote in the election. I appreciate what you represent and am available to assist you any way possible.

Oh please, Paula, you're a class act. :)

Though actually I would also say Lapid's ideas, vs. the man, are fair game. From what I've seen so far, he's a decent fellow. Have you watched his Kiryat Ono speech? It's really must see for anyone who wants to get some insight into him.

I am sorry to see another person with a lot of potential become another "Court Jew". While Yair Lapid may appear to be slightly more moderate than his father, I do not see much of a difference between them.
By creating a surplus agreement with Labor he has decided to cast his lot with those who would happily disenfranchise a large part of the Jewish people who happen to live in the "wrong" parts of Israel.
It also seems hard to get excited over a party that is undemocratic in its basic structure and one that has yet to come out with a solid plan for anything in the country.
Sorry, but this is just another populist agenda.
