Even though I do not share any of the enthusiasm for these alternative ideas, this article ignores some basic prerequisites. If you are speaking of Chabad couples then they are committed to an authority which not only disagrees but has explained at length why. The Rebbe. There is no need to search the universe, a bashert will travel if that is the intention. Too many couples from far off countries and backgrounds have found each other in totally non natural ways. I suggest that there is nothing wrong with marrying the girl next door and shadchanim should mostly deal with a small area. Only if that is not what happens should one feel the need to look in the next state or next country.There is a lot said about the matching of those with similar backgrounds, families, etc.
Again, R' Shmully, you show an ignorance of what is happing in the Lubavitch community or you would know about initiatives like shidduch.net. You would see that there are plenty of professionals, especially in Israel making the weddings happen. Or are you just modern Orthodox and trying to change Chabad values because you were once affiliated? As in your column about Chabad not applying its intellectual legacy to modern issues but not mentioning the Israeli schools that do, lack of knowledge or misrepresentation? The state of Chabad in the US is much less healthy today because of its influence by modern Orthodoxy has caused it to take the worst rather than the best of both.

A shadchan would have been helpful to me 22 years ago. I'm 11 years into my second marriage and after this is over cannot imagine trying to meet someone again. If I had some help looking in the early 90s maybe I would have got it right the first time and life would be very different today.

Mixed interactive assemblies IS a slippery slope. My question to you is, why change the system? Your premise – that it is harder because the numbers have climbed, makes no sense. For one thing, the more there are, the more shadchanim there are. Secondly, Hashem did not leave these children lurched in the dust, as if they will not be provided for, God forbid. You have to come clear with your real concern.

Coming from the modern orthodox perspective, I don't think that meeting other singles is the problem. Most singles meet lots of appropriate potential mates, but pass them up in search of perfection (however they define it). When singles start searching based on realistic expectations of their partner, themselves and what a happy marriage really entails, then I truly believe that the challenges of the "shidduch crisis" will be significantly reduced.

I suggest having shabbat weekends at nudist colonies. The Creator brought us into this world in a natural state and we have no reason to be embarrassed about our bodies.
