A Brief Open Letter to the President of Egypt
Your Excellency, Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, President of Egypt, Salaam and Shalom.
My dear friend Alba is a very wise woman. She has been very upset and deeply concerned with the recent war between Hamas terrorists in Gaza and the citizens and military forces in Israel.
The constant bombings, missiles, destruction of homes, buildings, infrastructures, and the dreadful loss of so many lives… young children, adults, elderly… all innocent victims of a war that was not needed.
The very recent ceasefire is not satisfactory. Bombs and missiles will fly again from one side and will be returned by the other side. The ceasefire, like all those in past years, will not and cannot hold. It is frankly only a matter of time until Hamas licks its wounds and recovers strength to resume the war.
Alba joins in a suggestion… a rather excellent suggestion… that Israel should neglect all future incidents with Hamas and instead, invite Egypt to regain control of the entire Gaza strip. With Egypt, our peaceful neighbor, in control of Gaza, our southern border will be safe and secure and, hopefully, Israel and Gaza can enjoy a quiet in place of the noise of death falling everywhere.
Your Excellency, Egypt has the power and the authority to regain its previous control of Gaza and the Hamas terrorists. It is written in the Egyptian Constitution which followed the 1952 Egyptian revolution, that the President of Egypt is also the Supreme Commander of the Egyptian Armed Forces.
Please consider, I urge you, using your Constitutional powers to quiet Gaza with Egyptian control.
Hamas will not dare to confront Egyptian military forces and a quiet, unheard of for decades, will be welcomed by all, Hamas and Israel and Egypt.
Alba has asked me to convey her thoughts and good wishes to Your Excellency. And together let us pray for the reality and the beauty of our two common words for peace: Salaam and Shalom.
In conclusion, I extend my personal prayers and good wishes for Your Excellency and for the good citizens of Egypt.
Respectfully,
Esor Ben-Sorek, Ph.D.
