A Plea to the Prime Minister
The Lubavitcher Rebbe passionately and consistently argued that it is dangerous to give away any of Israel’s territory. He explained how even just talking about the possibility of giving away land, encourages terrorism. He also opposed Palestinian self-autonomy, because historically self-autonomy has led to independent states.
But Prime Minister Shamir offered self-autonomy, and shortly afterwards the Oslo Accords offered to give the Palestinians a state; the result was intifadas. Sharon gave away Gaza, and Hamas rockets followed. Subsequent governments continued discussions about giving the Palestinians a state, and terrorism continued.
About two years ago, Naftali Bennett became Prime Minister. To his credit, he declared that he would not give away any part of Israel. And for about half a year, things were relatively quiet. Then, Beilin publicized a new plan to give away land, Gantz and Lapid declared their support for a Palestinian state, and a wave of terrorism soon followed.
In a YouTube video titled: “The Lubavitcher Rebbe on the Roadmap to Peace in Israel,” the Rebbe advised that the Government of Israel and its Prime Minister need to declare, that rumours about giving away Israeli territory are false. He explained that the rumours actually encourage and motivate terrorism, because the perpetrators feel that there is something to gain.
Prime Minister Netanyahu often spoke about how he held the Rebbe in high regard. Perhaps he will follow the Rebbe’s advice now, and declare that Israel will not give away any land.
