About this Blog

For a while I have been considering writing a blog for “Times of Israel”. I have found that, with some exceptions, many of the “Times of Israel” Blogs represent a conservative Zionist standpoint. This standpoint is often more sympathetic with Likud or even the Jewish Home Party.  As a liberal and a Zionist, I believe that in order to preserve the state of Israel we must promote liberalism in Israel (I support Meretz strongly).  In other words, we should not just promote Israeli accomplishments, but we should fight for Israeli accomplishments.  We should not talk of a peace-loving Israel, but rather, we should fight for a peace loving Israel.

It is these values which are at the core of the Liberal Zionist ideology.  I realize that many of the readers of TOI will be appalled by what I have to say.  I understand that our people have been through a horrendous history of oppression.  But this does not justify the oppression of another people–the Palestinian people.

I am a firm believer in the Two-State solution. In this respect, Israel can maintain its Jewish character without compromising democratic values. In my humble opinion, I believe this is what it means to be truly pro-Israel.
