AI-Generated Texts Pose Security and Ethical Risks
The texts generated by artificial intelligence (AI) have become an integral part of content production in various fields. From academic papers to journalism, marketing content to creative writing, many different types of texts can now be produced using this technology. Especially through analyses conducted on large datasets, text generation is possible, providing a wide range of applications. AI has the capacity to rapidly create various types of texts through language models and algorithms.
As a result, the security of AI-generated texts is increasingly being discussed as this technology rapidly spreads. In my opinion, one of the biggest concerns is the accuracy and reliability of the source of these texts. It’s not always easy to understand where AI-generated content originates from or what data it’s based on. It may contain misleading information or give rise to unethical uses. In particular, the potential to generate manipulative or false information in news content raises significant concerns. Furthermore, in academic settings, plagiarism may become an issue, as AI models create new content by analyzing previously produced texts. Therefore, I believe that writings produced with this technology should be handled more cautiously in terms of reliability and ethics. Moreover, some view using AI in content creation as a major ethical and moral problem.
AI-generated texts raise important questions regarding security. One of the main concerns is the potential for these texts to be used to spread misinformation and disinformation. Especially with the rise of deepfake technologies, distinguishing between real and fake information becomes more difficult, which could lead to a breakdown of trust in society. In academic circles, the use of AI could also result in problems related to plagiarism and copyright. In this context, I believe that there is a growing need for international regulations concerning the ethical use and reliability of AI.
Although we are in a key position regarding AI usage, particularly in fighting misinformation, we have recently seen how AI is frequently used for manipulation and fake content production in conflicts, such as those with the terrorist organization Hamas. This situation once again makes me think of the dangerous side of AI. AI-generated fake images, which spread rapidly on social media during the conflict, not only escalated tensions between the parties but also created a global wave of disinformation. Israel’s strong cybersecurity infrastructure and leadership in technology development form a defense line against these threats. However, these developments once again highlight how carefully AI must be considered in terms of ethics and security.
AI detectors, developed as a solution to identify AI-generated content, have made some progress in distinguishing fake or manipulative texts, but it’s hard to say that these technologies provide a definitive solution. Detectors typically operate by analyzing specific linguistic patterns and stylistic features, but as AI models become increasingly sophisticated and capable of producing more human-like texts, the accuracy of these tools becomes questionable. Especially well-crafted AI texts can deceive current detectors, indicating that they may be insufficient in preventing disinformation. However, there are still very successful AI Detector available. In a sense, we are witnessing a battle of AI against AI.
In conclusion, AI-generated texts have secured a significant place in content production and information access, but security and ethical concerns remain a major topic of debate. While Israel uses this technology both for security and to combat disinformation, it must also grapple with the risks posed by AI. The rapid spread of fake news necessitates a careful approach to this technology. The responsible use of AI and the implementation of stronger ethical rules are critical to reducing future risks.
