An English anthem for Israeli schools
What is probably the first ever anthem for English classes and teachers in Israel has just been recorded on video by Jerusalem Anglo singer-songwriter David Ben Reuven with the fifth-grade students and their English teachers Efrat and Iva in the Yefe Nof elementary school in Jerusalem. The impressive video, produced by Larry Pfeffer, is now fast gaining popularity on Youtube, and Ben Reuven hopes that it will be adopted for their English classes by English teachers in Jerusalem and throughout Israel.
The videos featuring the anthem “English is Easy” and Ben-Reuven’s rock hit “Jerusalem Rock” are now accessible on Youtube by simply typing in the titles English is Easy and Jerusalem Rock David.
Here now are the words of Ben Reuven’s English anthem:
ENGLISH IS EASY
The theme song for the English classes
Words and music: David Ben Reuven
English is easy
ABC,
English is easy
1,2,3,
English is easy
So speak like me.
English is easy,
Have a cup of tea!.
English is easy,
Listen to me.
Soon you’ll speak English
Just like me.
Don’t say “I can’t!”
Just say “I can!”
And soon you’ll speak English
Like an Englishman! (or an American!)
(spoken)
So listen to your English teacher
Because she teaches you well
To read and speak English
Here in Israel.
When you’re in England
Say “How are you?”
When you’re in England
Say “Please” and “Thank you.”
So start to speak English
“Red,” “White,” and “Blue,”
But don’t you forget how to speak Hebrew!
