Another letter to Hillary

Dear Hillary,

This letter comes following one from a fellow blogger who may just be confused and angry.

You are wanted here. You are needed here. You see, in Israel a lot of people think they can do it all: very little planning, no foresight and a lot of action, often more error than trial. This is one of the reasons we are in such a mess right now.

Gaza ruled by Hamas as you well remember was one of the legacies of a weird combination of ultra conservative thinking by both George W. Bush and super settler-expansionist Arik Sharon who had an epiphany of truth, saw the apartheid state down the road and tried to bulldoze his way out of it. A perfect storm of ideology you can call it, the damage of which we are all stuck with.

You see, as you may remember it was the Bush Administration and the Sharon government that in the spirit of democracy empowered the Hamas by standing back when Palestinian elections took place in 2006, expecting the Fatah party to win. Well the rest is history: the anti-democratic Hamas gained a serious political foothold and ousted the moderates and closed down the any real democratic institutions that may have existed in order to practice a policy of supremacist ethnicity and the destruction of Israel.

It was Sharon who thought he could bulldoze his way out of a greater Israel that ends with a Jewish minority the same way he bulldozed the settlers into Ariel and occupied territory. Israel withdrew from Gaza without any real negotiations of significance: neither with the Palestinian Authority nor the settlers.

Missiles, mortars and rockets have been fired from Gaza since 2000 in increasing numbers with lapses following Israeli retaliation.

In Israel, we call this a plonter. Translated into American that means SNAFU.

So here we are today: no vision for a future democratic Israel as the settler movement continues to bulldoze a path through the future Palestinian state,  no solution to the rockets from Gaza – known as “Hamastan”,  and wondering what to do.

Hillary, help! Please don’t be cross with us for helping Mitt, it was only flirtation and infatuation and it meant nothing, I swear!

Tell B we love him,

JZ
