As President Trump befriends Iran, he is getting bombarded

Two weeks ago, Netanyahu came to Washington, and Trump told him that the U.S. was going to start talks with Iran. Netanyahu said that talks must lead to the dismantling of Iran’s nuclear program.

The meeting with Iran took place later that week. Initial reports seemed to indicate that the U.S. wanted to just limit Iran’s enrichment, but not dismantle the program.

Trump later said that Iran’s nuclear capability needed to be eliminated. But a subsequent meeting the following week didn’t seem to substantiate this.

Reportedly Israel has wanted to bomb Iran, but Trump said he wouldn’t support this.

While this has been happening, tremendous pressures have been piling up against Trump. Here is a list:

Two days after the first Iran meeting, Harvard University stood up to Trump and said that they would not agree to his demands, even if it meant losing funding.

The same day, China’s president began a tour to shore up relations with three Asian countries, in order to unify against Trump’s tariffs.

Two days later, a judge decided that Trump’s administration was in probable contempt of court.

The next day, in light of stock market losses, Trump lambasted Powell, head of the Fed, for not lowering interest rates.

The next day, expressing exasperation that Putin wasn’t listening to him, Trump said that he might walk away from trying to broker a peace deal between Ukraine and Russia.

The next day, in a rare post-midnight session, the Supreme court ordered the administration to not remove certain detainees from the U.S. until the court further ordered.

The next day it was revealed that Hegseth, the Secretary of Defense, shared battle details (against the Houthis) with his wife and his brother. There are now calls for him to resign.

According to an Axios article last week (titled: “Trump team’s Iran divide: Dialogue vs. detonation to end nuclear threat”), there had been a difference of opinion among the administration whether to talk to Iran or to bomb them. Hegseth was among those who wanted to talk.

Yesterday the stock market continued to plunge, and the dollar fell to its lowest level in three years. (Normally, when stocks are in turmoil, the dollar and U.S. government bonds are considered safe assets.)

So what we are seeing, is that right after Trump told Netanyahu that he was going to hold talks with Iran, he has been bombarded with tremendous pressures from all sides.

Interestingly, a report surfaced yesterday, that two days after Trump’s meeting with Netanyahu, two administration officials went behind the back of an advisor, and persuaded Trump to pause tariffs for ninety days. In retrospect, this might have weakened the initial ‘punch’ of the tariffs, reducing the fear that many countries may have first felt. Perhaps this also motivated China to (the following week) strike deals with other countries.

And all of the above happened, right after Trump went against Netanyahu, and against Israel’s assessment that Iran’s nuclear ambitions are a threat that must be bombed.

In Genesis (12; 3) G-d told Abraham, “ I will bless those who bless you.”

It’s time for Trump to heed these words, and, as he recently stated to reporters, to let Israel lead.
