Barbara Deutsch was born into an immigrant family in Germany after the war in 1949. The family settled in Williamsburg, moving to Crown Heights, East Flatbush and Canarsie. They were a family of three, one girl, Barbara, the oldest, and two boys. Until she was 21 years old, she never met an adult who did not have an accent. She went to Yesivah from Kindergarten through High School; a neighbor paid for her education. She taught Social Studies, wrote curriculums on curricular and co-curricular education and loved every minute of the time she spent in school with students, colleagues and families. Her husband Bob and her are educators. They have three married children, 14 grandchildren and great grandchildren. From the Six Day War to the day of their aliyah, she longed for Israel to be their home. When they could leave, they did.
