A CANDLE BURNS a candle burns through the night and day as I write thinking of you ... battlefields your deaths a nation weeping flowers, fresh in clusters on your graves the siren and the silence and the stillness ... a candle burns the flame straight and strong as you were as you want me to be

where are you now ashes deep over there how could you know then stuffed in cattle cars raging through the night what waited at the other end
