“Blue and White”: Demagoguery or desperation?

Another senseless and inflammatory declaration by Benny Gantz. His latest tweet: “Netanyahu is greasing up Hamas terrorists with millions of dollars in suitcases and footing the bill to the citizens living near Gaza. In two weeks we will put an end to this madness” (Jerusalem Post, February 18, 2020).

No hint whatsoever about how Blue & White intents to accomplish this feat and deliver final relief to the battered Israeli communities in the Southern border. Will it be perhaps – in a daring Robin Hood type operation – by redirecting Qatar’s suitcases filled-in with millions of dollars and destined to Gaza to the Israeli towns instead? Or will it be by “We will aim for the toppling of Hamas, take action to assassinate all Hamas leaders and go in with ground forces for however long we want”? (Times of Israel, “Blue and White vows to invade Gaza, kill its leaders if it commands next war”, August 6, 2019).

The immatureness and adventurism at the top of Blue & White’s “cockpit” is frightening. I can understand the attractiveness of using a slogan like “Anything but Bibi” in a political campaign, but is the Israeli public willing to really accept “anything” from a candidate to Prime Minister no matter what?
