Actually, I very much love our pre-election situation. The Right won’t go to war because it would lose seats for every Israeli casualty. The Left screams that they’d be really tough once forming a government because the left electorate doesn’t believe them and the right electorate could.
Our caretaker government takes care of things (or doesn’t) and much stays the way it is. We get to vote every three months (sticking to our opinions) while parties fuse and split from election bid to election bid and smart people tell us all the time what it means and how serious it all is. We get taught about disputed voter fraud vs regular voter fraud vs voter fraud prevention. Polls constantly predict all changes exceeding 1% with a margin of error of 8% (+/- 4%). It’s all great fun and entertainment.
We’re told that soon we’ll have a comprehensive peace plan to realize paradise for all. Meanwhile, we all complain and get promised whatever we wish for. It’s fairytales all over again. (“If you want it, it’s a fairytale.”)
We read and hear about global threats of climate, war, and economic trouble while at home we have stability (inertia). We are doing our jobs, raising our children, continue breathing and we will never be able to explain properly to future generations what a relief it all was.
Finally something Zionist and anti-Zionist Israelis can agree on. Let’s vote!
Who says we want any government? We just want elections. All the time.
There’s a price tag on this but it’s just fully worth it.
Just kidding — but not completely.
