Clarification

I received feedback from a recent blog, Keep Kristalllnacht From Koming To Town. I’ve been accused of spreading fears from the conservative side of the political spectrum. I’m surprised at that because I thought I made it completely clear that, standing right smack in the middle of the political spectrum, I can see the danger from both sides. I hope that the following clarification will help you to see that too. Although some of this may be repetitive from my previous blog, I sincerely believe that it’s important to clarify my position and yours about what I believe.

The 1996 Telecommunications Act gives all social media platforms unbridled power over:

what we can post, tweet, roar or otherwise say, including our political views;

how long we can post, post, tweet, roar or otherwise say those views;

news to which we have access,

and

authoritative censorship over everything that we post, tweet, roar, or otherwise say, and anything we may read or see that comes across our screens.

In 1996, we (as in “We The People”) gave social media platforms all of that power, during our more innocent days. Via a quid pro quo arrangement, seemingly fair at the time, under which social media platforms agreed to operate, we gave up our right to sue them for anything posted in what appeared to be a fair exchange for allowing us to post anything (with Section 230 as a the safety measure against hate speech). Now that safety measure is being used to suffocate our freedoms.

All of the social media platforms, previously rivals but interestingly now all in bed together, have gained this authoritarian, unchecked power, by cruelly twisting the meaning of the innocent wording of that Section 230 within the Act.

This unforeseen power grab, has placed all social media platforms, in historically, unprecedented, seats of power over the information we receive.

From 1996 to approximately 2016, the 2226 (1996 plus 230) pound peacefully sleeping giant, the telecommunications industry, snored away. In late 2016, the giant was poked and prodded and stirred. By 2019, he was so angry from being disturbed that when he finally awoke (as in Woke) the giant was up and very hungry….for power.

We’re now seeing the giant stomp his left foot. Just as easily he could start to stomp with his right. It’s all a matter of time and who controls him in the future’s present.

George Orwell said, “whoever controls the present controls [history] and whoever controls [history] controls the present”…in other words, truth.

Our “We The People Power” power, given to us by our forefathers who are now deemed as enemies by the giant, comes in two forms:

the abandonment of social media platforms, whose media moguls spread, as truth, the political potato salad recipes they want us to eat (as for your own political recipes, email, text them, or share them over the back fence)

and

the need to change the law as quickly as possible.

If we don’t want George Orwell’s 1984 world to become ours, we have to use our two powers to keep the giant from stomping us into submission.
