Food should be proper feeding, not a delay of nutrients intake
Much as recreational drugs or sex don’t make happy but numb.
What’s gone wrong in junk/comfort ‘food’ is the priorities of nutritious and delicious. First, real food should provide the ingredients our bodies need. But, there is a difference between medicine and food. After it is found that a certain meal would support our health, it should be made tasty. Yet, when yummy comes first, our tummy goes out of the window.
This doesn’t even help for false foods that alarm the intestines that food is coming, like chewing gum and smoking.
Ask your rabbi the provocative question: ‘How can we make a blessing on food (lechem) before we eat the poison white bread is, G^d forbid?’
In Dutch, we don’t even have a word for junk, recreational, or comfort ‘foods.’ We call them deserts. It comes after a real meal—only. We also have sweets. Every parent and no child knows: ‘Sweets are not food.’ They may conclude a meal but don’t come instead of one. As fibers in Charlottesville chanted (universally misheard): ‘Juice will not replace us.’
Of course, we could disconnect eating from nutrition, just like sex and procreation are now untied. (Pregnant without sex (AI); sex without pregnancy.) An exit from the stomach to the outside so that whatever we eat immediately leaves our bodies, and a venous infusion to get the nutrients we need. There are two problems with this separation. 1. The muscles of our intestines need food (fibers) to knead. 2. This is ridiculous.
So, try to find out (and not from popular quack theories) what food supports your health, how to make that tasty, and eat nothing else.
If that’s hard, eat your fill of food and, only after that, some junk.
