Elephant in The Room

“Avoiding the elephant in the room”

From hutz l’aretz Israel seems to be looking everywhere except at the elephant in the room. Who, what, is the elephant this time? Hey, just read your own paper or any other source. Jerusalem is poised on an outbreak of violence; Israeli Arab youth are increasingly unhappy, the PA cities and towns are unsafe for any Jew, and meanwhile Israel is concerned with the ego of Netanyahu, saving Ukraine, a new rock group, and other stuff that should be way down the priority list.

Please, somebody in Israel who has some influence, please ring the alarm bell. The only issue now in Israel is to defuse the coming explosion; something has to be done to boost the reality of the everyday life of the Arab sector, both in the PA and in Israel, and especially in Jerusalem. Something that can be done now; ask for advice from someone in Israel who is at least listened to by the Arab community as a result of some years of sensitivity to the conflict.

At this point, it is of no consequence as to who is right or wrong or the list of Jewish martyrs and grievances going back to the 1890s. Easing up on inspections at check points, pause on Jewish plans for Jerusalem (Golda and Moshe gave up the Mount and that should not be challenged now), increase monies to the Arab sector. Israel, look at the elephant and coax him out of the room to forestall his rampage.
