Former Trump Supporter Endorses Joe Biden for President

After the Democratic candidate I voted for, Senator Elizabeth Warren dropped out. I took a look back at whom I will support in the general election. In these past couple of years, I’ve learned to have different sets of values, which reshaped my political beliefs. People have the right to have free health care, free college, immigration reform, fighting bigotry and racism of any kind. Realizing the privileged person I am in this country, I don’t have to worry about my rights being taken away, yet there are many Americans who don’t have that luxury.

My heart has been leaning towards Bernie Sanders for a bit, then I remembered our country is not only a Democracy, but it’s also the Constitutional Republic. The popular vote does not elect the President. I’ve thought of the best candidate who it would be to beat Trump in the general election and that is Joe Biden. I don’t agree with Biden in all of his policies, and he’s far from perfect like any other candidate with concerns. But I can assure you, that he is not Trump. Sanders’s policies are unfortunately a bit too far left for many Americans, especially those to those who are not even on social media. Many electorates are not comfortable with a Democratic Socialist running the country, even though many programs use this Democratic socialistic philosophy. And even though, I want all of these things for those who are less fortunate than us, especially with the corona virus going around we need medicare for all, I personally value the freedoms and rights we currently have under the Constitution a bit more, particularly because of the oath I took as a Soldier. If we lose these rights which we could with another four years of Trump, it could turn this country into a dictatorship or plutocracy, and any pathway to progressivism will be closed. Trump has violated the Constitution several times, and he will do it again since he hasn’t been held accountable. And the fact that he violated the constitution because of his fear of Biden, tells me everything. Imagine because of the divide of Sanders and the moderate candidates, what if Dems lose the House and Republicans regain the Senate, our country will not survive because Trump has put our Democracy on life support.

Because of the Electoral College, and different factors of regaining the House and winning the Senate, I believe Joe Biden should be the nominee, so he has my endorsement. We need the voices from Never Trump Republicans as well as Progressives. We should learn the mistakes from the 2016 election, like going to every State and being careful about how we address Trump supporters. If we can unite as one party, we can win this and return to somewhat normal politics. When that happens, we can then fight for progressive values and even in future elections, elect a progressive, maybe even a progressive woman.

My last point is to Bernie Supporters and how we should try to interact. I get why you guys are frustration, thinking your candidate was going to win in 2016, and the party picked the nominee. You guys are thinking the same in this election. I will repeat again so those in the back can hear me, if Trump wins again because of this divide, there will be no pathway for our values. I will remind you that when I was a conservative, the agenda is to make America a nationalistic right wing country. Those who are not Bernie supporters, please do your best to dialogue with them, learning to understand different points of view comes a long way. Remember it was a Bernie supporter who changed my life to lead me in this journey, and Bernie supporters welcomed me as much as everyone else did. We are on the same side, different fundamentals. We are different branches of the same tree, we need everyone together.
