Has American leadership lost its moral compass?

America under the Obama regime is increasingly looking like an unfaithful and treacherous ally.

Not only did it throw Israel under the bus with the Iran nuclear deal, it has abandoned the Kurds to ally with Turkey in exchange for access to Turkish air base.

It chastises Israel for protesting against appeasing a regime that calls for Israel’s destruction, and tries to usurp her right to self-defense by naming and shaming Jerusalem as a spoiler to the deal.

It shackles oil-rich Kurdistan to beg for money and weapons from a hostile Baghdad, take repeated pummeling by US-weapons equipped ISIS, and now abandons its loyal Kurdish allies in exchange for a few crumbs of air sorties from Turkish air base.

Even worse, it is colluding with Erdogan’s regime to provide a Syrian no-fly-zone safe haven for the Turkey-backed “moderate rebels” and Army of Conquest that brutally persecutes Christians, Druze, Yazidis, Kurds and other religious and ethnic minorities.

As current Virginia state senator Col. Richard Black (ret.) wrote recently, “how did America — a nation once committed to justice, decency, freedom and liberty — become militarily aligned with this evil Army of Conquest? Why do we follow the Turks and Saudis and their Army of Conquest — an army that seeks to purge the world of Christians, Jews, Shiites, Hindus, Buddhists and Yazidis?”

Indeed the whole world is watching and shaking its head at the moral decline of US leadership.

Backing al-Qaeda affiliates and Islamic jihadists that is threatening to enslave Syria, calling good “evil” and evil “good” in its increasingly moral relativistic stance, America is no longer a shining city on the hill with a moral compass to guide its foreign policy.

As Senator Black rightly observed, the Army of Conquest and ISIS are merely drug cartels struggling for dominance while sharing similar goals of establishing a puritanical Caliphate that murders, enslaves, and dominates “infidels.” The former consists of Al Nusra, Ahrar al-Sham, other Islamist unsavories while the latter is an extreme version of Al Qaeda in Iraq (AQI).

These so-called “moderate Syrian rebels” have displayed the same level of barbarity as ISIS and are cut from the same jihadi cloth. Most disgusting was the video in 2013 of a rebel commander performing cannibalism and eating the organ of a dead Syrian soldier.

These “rebels” compel Christians to convert or be murdered; execute children for trumped up blasphemy charges; justify raping women and girls as young as 9 years old as permitted by their interpretation of Shariah law; yet the West continues to arm and back these sons of perdition and ignore their anti-human depravities.

It is indeed twisted irony that the Obama administration wants to impose gun control in the US and take guns away from American citizens, yet arm these cannibalistic barbarians in Syria.

Senator Black, who served as a pilot in the US Marine Corp and earned a purple heart, admonished the current administration.

“I’ve seen Americans die in battle, and not one shed his blood so that the Army of Conquest could plunder and enslave Syria. No American sacrificed his life so that Syria’s al-Qaida could compel Christians, Druze and Alawites to renounce their religions or die. None shed blood so that children could become concubines, ravaged by savages.”

“This is not what Americans have fought and died for. The U.S. alliance with terrorists betrays Americans who died at their hands on 9/11. Our covert alliance with the Army of Conquest stains the honor of everyone who wears our nation’s uniform.”

Powerful words from a highly decorated US Vietnam veteran who knows the meaning of honor, sacrifice, and semper fidelis.

Sadly, it seems the civil war in Syria will indeed become a jihadist victory now with US meddling.

As Robert Olson in Today’s Zaman observed, in the May 13-14 US-GCC summit, the Obama administration agreed to a larger role for the Saudi/Qatar/Turkey alliance with al-Nusra, Ahrar al Sham and the Army of Conquest in pursuing their war against Assad and its supporters — especially the Christians — some of whom support the Assad regime for his protection.

Now Obama will have the US military serve as their air force.

It is an open secret Obama dismisses the ongoing Christian genocide in the Mideast and supports Islamists such as the sinister Muslim Brotherhood, frustrating even Egypt’s al Sisi and forcing him to join the China-led Shanghai Cooperation Organization for security — revealing how little allies trust Washington these days.

Now history is repeating itself with the establishment of a Syrian no-fly zone similar to the one in Libya. This safe haven will allow “rebels” to topple the existing regime so that jihadists can run amuck in Syria as it has in Libya.

In fact, Libya has turned into such a jihadi inferno that boatloads of radicalized Libyan refugees heading towards Europe have identified Christians in their midst and drowned them by throwing them overboard.

Now despite US/Turkey verbal acrobatics that in Syria it will be an “ISIS-free” zone, the difference between an “ISIS-free zone” and “no-fly zone” is similar to the difference between potayto and potahto. In fact a senior Obama administration official told CNN that since Turkey has granted the U.S. access to its air bases to push back ISIS, the arrangement creates “nearly the same effect” as a no-fly zone.

And even as US whispers sweet nothings to Russia that this is a humanitarian corridor and ISIS free zone, Russia and China likely won’t fall for that honey trap again.

In Libya, the West deceived Beijing and Moscow by using the Responsibility to Protect (R2P) fig leaf to push for regime change, so now they are once bitten and twice shy about the “refugee haven/ISIS free zone” in Syria. They know all too well how that will end up.

Only, this time would they just sit back and watch Syria burn, or would they act to push back against the no-fly zone?
