“Hineni” to the Intensive Care Ward of Life

Torah Portion Shmot

I am here, ready for what I am asked.

No matter where, how and when I am tasked.

Moses was hesitant as to his abilities;

But committed to all responsibilities.

The burning bush continues to blaze

In the lifetime of each, our hands to raise.

Beyond the awe and terror of it all,

Each of us must answer the persistent call.

From generation to generation,

What must we give of ourselves without cessation?

Witnessing flames from nation to nation

Thus to strive for mankind’s liberation.

From ignorance, slander, falsehood, misused might

To compassion with strength for all that is right.
