Holocaust Education Through Social Media
The Holocaust is taught in History or Religious Education lessons in schools, and on trips to Poland. Maybe even watching the film Schindler’s List.
Now the Holocaust is being taught outside the classroom on social media through platforms like Tiktok.
What I am referring to specifically are the short videos that are being posted on Tiktok by Gidon Lev, who is a Holocaust survivor living in Israel.
He posts videos of himself showing his gold star and other less serious videos of himself dancing to music. These videos are both educational and can also sometimes be entertaining to watch.
Gidon Lev is quickly gaining a worldwide reputation and has also published a book about his life.
For his age, it is somewhat unusual for him to be a Tiktok star but if he can reach out to young people and teach others, good luck to him.
Gidon does not just send a message about the horrors of the Holocaust, he also sends a message about being optimistic and learning to cope through our struggles and hardship.
