How?

How do we pray, praise, hodu, and hoshana this year?

With one breath from eternity.

How did they in the Crusades and Chelmno those years?

With eternity?

How will we dance this year?

With one foot in eternity; one broken foot, one prosthetic foot, one chained in a tunnel foot.

Nothing about what has happened to us; what we have done, what we are doing, nor who we are: makes any sense at all.

Without eternity.

Nothing we feel, or think, or say, or don’t say: makes any sense at all.

Without eternity.

Nothing we pray for, hope for, sing for, or dance for: makes any sense at all.

Without eternity.

Never do we hold our hands to our lips, close our eyes to the cries, choke back our hopes, or open wide our hearts, without—

Eternity.

Never can we live, do we live, will we live, without—

Eternity.

Never Again, Hatikvah without—

Eternity.

שהחינו וקימנו והגיענו לנצח הזה.

In eternal memory:

David Newman, David Yair Shalom.
