This is something I encounter a lot these days. It may be that my laptop is getting too old or my internet connection is in dire need of an upgrade.
But it occurs to me that this sums up the stark choice facing both sides in the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian saga and the ever-present dilemmas and nightmares that those taking part must experience and have to live with forever after.
Now wouldn’t it be so much easier for all concerned if matters of such terrible import could be addressed in a manner radically different from that of the standard narrative, a story that has stayed with us all, unchanged and unchecked for nearly seven decades?
If the burden of response were to be randomly distributed throughout much of the human race, then individuals and communities alike could escape the need for any further conflict. Thereafter, resolution of their problems in a calmer and more expeditious fashion might be expected, even guaranteed and in no uncertain terms.
Nothing else seems to have worked; so why don’t we take a chance and try something new, something really scary but no means fatal, a quick exit route finally forced open and made available to one and all?
