If Israel’s dead don’t make the news

The terrorism that is investing Israel is identical to that that is investing the rest of the world: missing this point is very dangerous for the West. It is discrimination, it is diverting the eyes away from pain, it is the negation ofthe feeling of solidarity that instead should be the glue of the war against terrorism itself. If it is true that in order to face a conflict first of all you must define it, then the misunderstanding here is corruptive and lethal.

On Sunday John Biden, the Vice President of the United States, in his weekly address at the White House, defined the current attacks as “heinous” and mentioned Paris, Beirut, Iraq and Nigeria. Israel did not appear in the list, despite the fact that exactly the same day it lost a 21 year old girl, Hadar Buchris, and suffered other attacks, just like any other day.

The face of a twenty-one year old cannot be but beautiful because it is lit by the long radiant path of life before it. How much pain Italy has felt these last days crying its youngster killed in Paris: Valeria Solesin’s smiling face has appeared on all the front pages, and the sorrow hurts on all the more because of the rage that comes with the incomprehensible randomness of the event.

On Sunday in Israel we saw Hadar’s beautiful face on the papers. And she is gone, knifed to death in a street in Gush Etzion, near Jerusalem. The assassin, killed right after the attack, was a 34 year old man from Beit Fajar, a Palestinian village.

Yesterday, yet again, a taxi driver tried to drive into a group of Israeli and then jumped out of the car with a knife, injured one person and was then shot down by a civilian. He came from Ramallah. A woman driver was also hit as she tried to run over an Israeli man in the outskirts of Nablus.

These are just the latest episodes of a continuous chain of attacks that has been going on for the last three months but has its ancestor already in the 1920’s when terrorism was set up as a method of genocide planned by the Islamism of the Palestinian mufti Haj Amin al Husseini, a friend of Hitler’s who, in opposition to a group of more moderate Arab forces, decided to attempt the wiping out of the Jews – who were for him the utmost example of Western corruption – from the area (Palestine was the name the ancient Romans gave Judea, after the second Bar Kokhbarevolt in 132 A.D.) that was on the way to be transformed from British Mandate into Israel.

Now, in the period from October 1st to November 19th, 91 attacks have been carried out by 102 Palestinians and 3 Israeli Arabs. At least a dozen were aged from 12 to 17, and others were women aged from 16 to 72.Approximately half of them have been killed by the security forces. The attacks have involved the whole of Israel, from Afula in the extreme north to Beersheba, in the Negev, although Jerusalem remains the hub since to meet death there as a shahid is a popular wish among the young.

An interview is circulating these days with a pretty Palestinian mother in an Israeli hospital. Her child has just been saved by Israeli doctors who are very proud and also gentle (“We never gave up, smile” they tell the Arab mother who cries for joy), and then the woman declares she is ready to give the life of her child, of all the Palestinian children, for Jerusalem, where the prophet Muhammad ascended to Heaven from Al Aqsa. She repeats that for Muslims death is like life: they are not afraid of death. In fact, they desire death.

The current intifada is made up of suicide terrorists, like in Paris. Just a few days ago a young man continued advancing while shooting at a policeman who was protecting himself with a bullet-proof shield. In the end, the policeman, finding the youth right up close, was forced to shoot back.

The young man was seeking martyrdom, because his entire ideology is based on that. Obviously, not all Palestinians think this way, but those who practice terrorism do. This is how terrorists are made. Their aspirations have nothing to do with the request for a Palestinian State or their social conditions.

They aim at an Islamic world. Suicide, martyrdom in the name of their faith, of the Mosque, their hate of imperialist Jews as representative of the West is the leitmotiv that accompanies all of contemporary jihadism.

The Palestinian terrorist army is a social group that has in common with all other terrorist groups its ideological certitude, a brain wash from media, family, mosque and school totally imbued with the determination to beat an enemy depicted as pure evil, and a powerful impulse to become a shahid (martyr). These are today’s terrorists: they accept no compromise and they disdain negotiation that is seen as negotiating with the devil.

Yesterday the Palestinian Media Watch broadcast a video of a young girl reciting this poem on PA TV: “When I was young I was taught that Arabness is my honor, and that our lands extend from one end to the other, and that our wars are for the Al-Aqsa Mosque, and that our enemy, Zion, is Satan with a tail …”.

This is the culture in the name of which Eitan and Naama Henkin were killed in front of their children aged from 9 years to 4 months. And similarly others, all Israeli, after them as well as many, many, many before them, thousands of them.

To fail to recognize them as victims of the terrorism that is also smiting Paris and can target anyone is to ignore the explosive power of Islamist ideology. It is tantamount to surrendering to its propaganda.
