member of the Order of Canada, recipient of many honors and awards

The Torah portion of the week, Miketz

is a standing tribute to our dear friend.

Just as Joseph did understand his dreams,

So did Sam bring his dreams to fruition.

Sam did much more, he understood the dreams

Hopes and aspirations of all others

In his midst and made them be realized.

Yes, Sam was a dreamer and a realist.

Practical in judgment, he transformed visions

Through challenges to new actualities,

For a city that arose on the horizon,

And also individuals, communities, and institutions

Lived to see their dreams become realities.

Sam lived his life as Joseph bringing dreams

And hopes to new visionary beginnings

For all to continue his legacy.
