Israel wants peace
“I will bless them that bless you and curse them that curse you and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you–Gen 12:3
Judaism is, to me, a unique faith. It celebrates life. Everything in Judaism is remembering that life goes on. This week, Israel has been tested. Israel has been mourning. One thing has been clear though: Israel’s humanity does not change. There have been many blogs, posts etc that have said it better: Israel will go on, and become stronger. That is true. But what has been missed is this: Her people, all of us, will go on and be stronger. There is no end to the hate that those of us who support Israel have to deal with. I could copy and paste comments to my own social media, but there is no reason to. I would rather focus on the good. Here are some statements made by either Israelis or people who support Israel:
“We must remember who we are and what we stand for”
“We cannot be like them..We must condemn hate”
“Israel is too special to drown in a cesspool of hate and violence”
“All Israelis stand together”
I want to add one more: Israel is a unique place in the Middle East. All Israelis are important, no matter their faith. The violence, hate speech etc is not something Israelis support. Israelis want peace. When the other side decides it wants it, progress will be made.
