Israel’s government uses the war as an excuse to plunder the workers further

Capitalism means the economy is doing great and the people are starving

I’m not talking ideology here; I’m talking figures. In the seven-front, multi-year war, Israel’s stock market is booming, the shekel is high, The Gross Domestic Product grew by an annualized 3.8% (Q3, 2024), the Consumer Price Index dropped by 5%, private consumption increased by 8.4%, and unemployment is down from 11.4% in March 1992 to 2.70% now. There is even NIS 12 billion over 5 years for rebuilding the war-ravaged north.

This, despite tourism being down to a trickle, an almost total boycott by most major airlines, farmers and builders having no safe workers, many farmlands unsafe to work on, just in the North, 60,000 civilians displaced for a year, and thousands of soldiers and civilians killed or wounded.

The amount of ongoing volunteering (work without pay) is unimaginable and while the news harps on the dangers of disunity, we’re pretty united.

The Minister of Economy and Trade even expects the tiny Jewish State to become the world’s fifth-largest economy by the coming year:

But now we are told, food prices will rise by 15%, the VAT by 5%, city tax by 6%, public transportation by 30%!, free public transportation for the elderly under 75 is void, and the government will cut spending by 5.5%.

In other words, especially the average person is extra taxed. But wealthier folks could have paid more tax on high-end cars, plane rides, or income.

Much of the war expenses are paid to Israelis. That money is not lost but reenters the economy. Weapon sales are through the roof now the whole world sees every day how the army is doing the impossible (again).

But PM Netanyahu and Finance Minister Smotrich are proud capitalists. Within limits because Bibi is a Jew and Betzalel a National-Religious Jew. Those lifestyles have their societal expectations. So did Bibi, during the Coronavirus epidemic, choose to protect the People first and afterward the economy (the opposite order of Trump) saving thousands of lives.

Also now, NIS tens of billions are liberally spent on fighting terrorists since what good is a thriving economy when the nation is exterminated?

For sure, economists deny their wallets are bursting to defend price-hiking:

But, like in most of Europe, the Labor Party first went Woke-Middle-Class and then vanished. Israel was founded by it. Where are the Trade Unions?

Not that workers’ rights and salaries in Israel are as bleak as in the US:
