Israel’s not an Occupying Force, but Russia is

Israel has been on the defensive in every war. They have responded to each aggression taken against her with military force. It is perfectly legal for a nation to defend herself against an aggressor, be it terroristic or other nations.

Those who condemn Israel for defending herself and taking back land that was already theirs and lost in pervious wars are mostly in support of Ukraine defending herself from Russia and Chechnyan forces who have invaded Ukraine the same way other nations have with Israel.

What Russia has been doing, since first invading Ukraine in 2014 has been an ongoing act of aggression and conquest. When Russia first invaded the sovereign nation of Ukraine, in much the same way the Arabs did during Israel’s War of Independence.

Land was lost to both in war. Israel later regained the territory taken, but Ukraine has never retaken Crimea back from Russia. Both, under international law, are entitled to what was taken by military force.

Russia has never let up on the aggression and Ukraine has never been encouraged to negotiate to keep only a part of what was unlawfully taken. The two-state solution people have been wanting to develop between Israel and her enemies to weaken a small nation and make it difficult to defend herself against legitimate attacks has never been proposed regarding Crimea.

Unlike the invading armies and terrorists who continue to attack Israel, there has been no condemnation of Ukraine for losing land rightfully belonging to them. Russia has been condemned and sanctions in place for a great many years. But those same sanctions were never put in place against a single Arab nation who took land in an aggressive war of conquest.

Once again, Russian forces have invaded Ukraine, and the Ukrainians are putting up a heroic fight against incredible odds. It should’ve been over in a matter of days, just like those who attacked Israel thought before the nation had a chance to even properly give birth. I hope and pray Ukraine survives the same way Israel did during later wars and retakes lost land.

Unlike Israel, Ukraine is receiving military assistance from the west. There are no shadow deals taking place to arm themselves, which is what happened with Israel. The help is not with direct militaries, but volunteers are coming from many places throughout the world, especially Europe. There is a similarity between Israel and Ukraine in that sense.

Russia is being led by a tyrant who wants to take back all the Soviets lost or may even be going further back to the Russian Empire. The attacks on civilian populations are purposeful, unlike Israel, who does everything they can to avoid civilian casualties, which is difficult when dealing with terrorist who use human shields to maximize casualties from any response. The biggest difference between Israel and Russia comes down to Israel has never sought conquest of neighboring nations.

Looking at what Russia has been doing to Ukraine since 2014, there is no comparison to be found between Russia and Israel. How can Israel be an occupying force by retaking land that was taken from them in war? That would be like claiming Ukraine has no right to Crimea, since Russia took it in the same way Israel had land taken from her.

If Ukraine can do more than hold out and use the military assistance being sent by the west, they could very well take back Crimea. It would be perfectly legal, since it was already a part of Ukraine. They would even be justified in taking portions of Russia to create a greater buffer zone between their cities and Russia’s border.

Ultimately, Israel is not an occupying force. Russia is and has been since their war that took Crimea from Ukraine. Other nations were the aggressors and did take land belonging to Israel. It would be a far better comparison to make between Israel and Ukraine than Israel and Russia, which is exactly what anti-Zionists have been trying to claim for a great many years.
