Chanukah ended only Monday. It’s not yet Pesach. The annual Passover holiday will not begin until the 16th of the month of Nisan which this year will be on Wednesday night, April 8, 2020.
So why do I hear the murmuring and the chanting to the melody of Dayenu (it is enough)?
I think it is because level-minded law-abiding citizens have had enough of our indicted criminal prime minister and the family which bears his name (with the one exception of Avner, a fine son and human being).
Dayenu ! Enough already. We are sick and tired of hearing the word “immunity”. I suggest that we scramble the letters of that English word and behold…. We have “mutiny”. And right now, that is what our country needs.
We need to overturn corruption beginning with the highest level.
I don’t know the feelings of my readers but I do know the feelings of people with whom I speak as we meet and discuss the tragedy of our political system.
I have come to the most difficult plan in the event that Netanyahu remains in government as prime minister.
It will force me to surrender the two most precious of the documents in my possession: giving up my Teudat Zehut and my treasured Israeli passport to seek solace and tranquility in another land.
I am ashamed to be a citizen of a country which has no government, which cannot formulate a government and whose Knesset can vote for immunity on charges of bribery, fraud and breach of trust.
Even North Korea has a working government albeit with a strongman dictator not very remote from ours.
A Canadian-born Israeli citizen, a graduate of one of our finest universities, asked me “you are an historian; so please tell me, have you ever heard of such a crazy situation in any other country”?
I could only think of the Weimar Republic in Germany which lost its credence to the National Socialists in 1933. It took too many bloody years before German honor could be restored and functional working government was in place.
An honorable leader would sacrifice personal ego for the sake of unity in his/her government. Too sadly, Binyamin Netanyahu is not an honorable leader. Not even an honorable man. And his recent legacy will paint a dishonorable portrait of the son of a very gifted Zionist historian and renowned scholar.
While singing Dayenu on the evening of the Pesach seder we take a bit of comfort from knowing that our cherished prophet Elijah (Eliyahu haNavi) may visit us for a few brief moments in which he could assure us that the promised messiah is on his way.
Elijah ascended into heaven on a fiery chariot. Would that he could take Bibi Netanyahu and spouse along with him and drop them off in a remote hinterland far from the eyes and ears of good people.
As I write these lines I glance at the cocktail table on which lies my blue ID card and my blue passport.
How can I ever surrender them? I waited for two thousand years to get them. Should I allow one indicted criminal to be the source of their loss?
Im eshkachaich Yerushalayim…. If I forget thee, o Jerusalem… a song sung by the rivers of Babylon thousands of years ago and still sung today… strengthens my devotion to an ancestral homeland.
I cannot permit Bibi Netanyahu to take it away from me. I will stay but he must go.
Enough of immunity. Enough of putting false blame on our honorable Attorney General.
Enough of deceiving our citizens.
Enough of his pathetic tiring cry “Lo Yihiyeh Kloom”…. There will be nothing “Ki Ain Kloom . Because there is nothing !
How wrong he was. His indictment is proof positive of the three criminal charges against him.
It’s not yet Pesach but it is sure in hell time to say to Bibi “Dayenu”.
We have had enough !
He needs to remember God’s command to Abraham: “Lech l’cha”.. Go. Get out of here !
Shanah ha ezrachit he chadasha tovah l’kol Yisrael. Happy secular new year to all Israel.
