J Street U at Wesleyan Joins Israel-Bashing Club

The J Street student group at Wesleyan University inverted reality in order to defame Israel and lie about the cause of hardship for the Palestinian-Arabs.

In an anti-BDS statement the group released on April 1st, it avoided sounding like it actually supports Israel and stated, “We too are deeply concerned with the gross violations of human rights and democratic principles perpetuated by the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories.”

By accusing the Jewish state of committing “gross violations of human rights,” J Street U not only joins BDS in demonizing and delegitimizing the Jewish state, but it also ignores the real violators of human rights and democratic principles, namely the Palestinian Authority.

By making these false accusations, J Street U sends the message that Israel is solely responsible for Palestinian hardship. But it ignores the fact that the Palestinian Authority actually controls 98 percent of Palestinian-Arabs living in Judea and Samaria, and that it is difficult for a country to commit human rights violations against people it does not control.

J Street U also ignores the fact that Palestinian-Arab terrorists funded by what is now the PA have attacked Israeli civilian targets for the past 50 years and have killed thousands of Jewish and Arab civilians, forcing Israel to act as any other country would and set up border-crossing checkpoints and a security barrier to protect its people.

More importantly, J Street U’s accusation of Israeli human rights and democracy violations draws attention away from the real atrocities committed against the Palestinian-Arabs. By falsely accusing Israel, J Street U ignores the real human rights violations committed by the Palestinian Authority on its own people every day.

The PA acts as a racist, freedom-denying, and terrorist-supporting dictatorship over its people. The PA denies its people basic human rights such as freedom of speech and the right to vote, as is evident by the jailing of those who criticize the government and the fact that PA President Mahmoud Abbas is in the tenth year of his four-year term.

The PA also – to this day – incites its people to commit genocide against the Jewish people and the Jewish state, which, according to international law, is a war crime.

So J Street U falsely accuses Israel, yet none of the dictatorial actions of the PA are considered a violation of human rights or democracy…
