Land of Groping and Tories

Still reeling from the Jimmy Saville pedophile story, the BBC found itself entangled in a new controversy claiming that a ‘leading politician from the Thatcher years’ was embroiled in a widespread paedophile ring – and repeatedly raped boys from a children’s home. The program fell short to name the politician.

According to Newsnight and the British tabloids, victim Steve Meesham, a resident of a Welsh children’s home in the 1970’s and 80’s, said he was abused by a senior politician more than a dozen times:

“You were taken by car, where basically you were sexually abused. Various things would happen, drink would be involved, it was basically rape… it wasn’t just him; there be other people involved.

These fresh allegations raise some significant questions about the extent of a child sex ring in the 1980’s in the UK. A ring that could involve both the royal family and Downing Street.

In 2000 Sir Ronald Waterhouse QC concluded a three year investigation revealed one of Britain’s worst ever child abuse scandals where 240  children were abused between 1974 and 1990 in 40 homes..

Labour MP Tom Watson raised a question with David Cameron about a “powerful paedophile ring” linked to Thatcher’s “senior adviser” and Parliament.

Watson said an evidence file collected by the police to convict paedophile Peter Righton in 1992 “contains clear intelligence of a widespread paedophile ring”.

The BBC’s Newsnight program failed to name which senior politician was involved, in the same way it failed to reveal that Britain’s leading TV personality, Jimmy Saville, was a sexual predator that had allegedly raped over 200 children and mental patients.

The elephant in the room is this. Saville was just one of many perverts loose in British society. He was connected to royalty, politicians and Prime Ministers.

The question is simple, who else is to be named? Although Newsnight was unwilling to name the politician, twitter and social media outlets were less timid. CNN’s Piers Morgan ‏tweeted:

‘So #Newsnight bottled it again tonight re exposing a paedophile? And they have the gall to mock tabloids? Grow a pair, Paxo.’

The issue will continue for months to come
