Lapid’s flame
MK Lapid’s name defined is a “torch”. A torch can be used to light the way and progress further but it can also denote destruction if it burns along the way. Although he is a member of the opposition in Israel whose function is to criticize the government he also has a responsibility to protect Israeli interests.
His latest comments about the Prime Minister’s misread declarations in Poland at the recent summit show that he, Lapid, is too quick to criticize and thereby causes harm to Jews all over the world. True, the JPost made a mistake in its posting of a misquote by the PM but it then corrected the mistake. Why is it so difficult for Lapid to accept the correction instead of the original misquote? The subsequent comment by Lapid can do more harm to Israel and the Jewish people than the original mistake. Critics of Israel will jump on this opportunity. Maybe the misconstrued comments by Lapid show why he is still in the opposition and not part of the government. If he were part of the government he would not have stated such a misunderstanding of the matter.
No one excuses the Poles for what they did to the Jews in the holocaust but perhaps the PM is correct in that the damage was done by individual Poles and not by the Polish government. Israel needs all the friends it can get and Lapid should not be making comments that feed the evil lust of our enemies.
