Make the best of your time in this strange world
I’m looking out the window and I see maple trees basking in the sun. Warsaw is so close to conflict in Ukraine, yet, it seems like the war with Russia is a world away. Then, there’s Israel. Tragic developments. And again, these tragic developments seem like a world away. I have no illusions. Poland is no stranger to wars and crises. The situation can change in a matter of hours. War, unrest, the list is long.
If it hadn’t been for brave Ukrainian resistance, Russia would have invaded Poland – with Warsaw being Russia’s prime target. I’d have likely been buried in a mass grave somewhere, maybe even forced to dig my own grave. Then, a bunch of idiotic Z-patriots would’ve snapped a selfie right next to my corpse. I wish it was hyperbole. It isn’t. I’m alive because brave people, indeed, heroes, are stopping the Russian horde from steamrolling over Poland, maybe even Europe.
When I see what’s going on in Israel, my mind immediately conjures up images of Ukrainian children abducted by Russians.
Then, there are Ukrainians who fled their war-torn country, only to be savagely killed in Israel. It’s almost as if when it’s your time to leave this world, you can’t cheat fate. You can’t negotiate with the Grim Reaper.
We’re now in a global conflict. It isn’t a full-fledged world war, not yet, but we’re getting there. No Korean scenarios and no negotiations are going to change it. You can negotiate all you want, good luck to you. A bunch of bureaucrats detached from reality can’t change the situation on the ground. Of thousands, maybe millions, of people who want revenge, be it in Israel, or Ukraine. For dead children. For dead parents, friends and acquiantances.
Tell these people revenge isn’t worth it. Tell them to forgive and forget. See what their response to your misguided moralizing will be.
We need to be ready. The era of peace is over. One day, when the world is stable again, it’s going to be a new dawn for humanity. A better world. A stable world. Maybe even a type one civilization. A truly planetary civilization.
Will all of us live to see that day? Will all of our children and grandchildren see that day? No. But don’t despair. If you believe in God, trust Him to guide you. Pray. I don’t know if this life is all there is. To me, only two scenarios make sense after we die. We either cease to exist, or we go on forever. Nothing else makes sense.
Make sure you leave what I call an intellectual legacy behind you. Write articles. Write a book. That’s a good way of making sure you aren’t just another nameless face in the crowd. I hope the ones who were brutally killed by Hamas are in heaven, no longer in pain. They are martyrs and heroes.
Live. In these uncertain times, you never know when God’s going to call you back to His Kingdom. Or, simply put, when you die and rot in the ground. Make the best of your time here, in this strange world, on this peculiar planet.
