“Mena, Mena, Tekel U’pharsin”

Since the beginning of Operation Protective Edge, the following countries have had blatant anti-semitic acts take place in their borders: United States, S Africa, Indonesia, Turkey, Yemen, Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, UK, Bolivia and Venezuela. In all of these countries, these acts have been DIRECTLY connected to Israel’s above-named operation. In some cases, the acts were “merely” vocal protests (casting Israel in the role of demon, Nazis, etc) and in others, the acts were vandalism, such as paint thrown on Israeli banks, Synagogues attacked, Jews attacked, demonstrators attacked and property damaged. Most recently, one of the largest chains in the UK has joined the movement to prevent the sale of any products that are made “in the West Bank.” (The so-called West Bank is, of course, Yehuda and Shomron)

While we live in a very different time period than pre-WWII years, nevertheless, it is difficult to not make some comparisons. Organizations whose raison-d’etre is to document violent acts against Jews (be they verbal, physical or emotional) are reporting that they have not seen such global hatred of Jews in 70 years. The pictures and the videos and the rhetoric and the violence are extremely disturbing and act to marginalize the Jews in their host countries.

Yes, you read that right–their host countries. Because only in Israel is a Jew truly at HOME. Only in Israel…

There is a well-known expression “To see the handwriting on the wall.” The expression comes from the Book of Daniel, Chapter 5, from the handwriting on the wall that was witnessed at a banquet hosted by King Belshazar. As those at the feast profaned the sacred vessels that had been pillaged from the Bet HaMikdash, a disembodied hand appeared and wrote on the palace wall the words, “Mena, Mena, Tekel, Upharsin”. The prophet, Daniel was summoned and interpreted this message as the imminent end for the Babylonian kingdom. That night, Belshazzar was killed and the Persians sacked the capital city

People, please! Please see the writing on the wall. Please look around you and look at the WORLD’S hatred of the Jews. It did not emerge overnight as a result of the current operation in Gaza. It is not in a vacuum that hundreds of thousands come out in hatred of Israel and the Jewish people in all four corners of the globe. It is time to be on the correct side of the future of the Jewish people.

As the expression in Hebrew goes: “הגיע הזמן” — The time has come!
