Moti sat coloring on the living room floor. He lifted his head, pointed his orange crayon at his mother, and asked, “Mommy, why’s Donald Trump such a bad man?”

“Moti, that’s an interesting question. Why are you asking such a question?” Sarah asked. And as she waited for her son’s reply she thought, “How did I get so lucky to have such an intelligent child? He’s only seven years old. He thinks and talks like an adult. He’s constantly reading and gobbling up information as if it were ice cream.”

“Well Mommy, I heard on the news, that Donald Trump said, “If  I lose the election it’s going to be the fault of the Jews.”

“Moti, how did that make you feel?”

“Sad Mommy. Real sad. I don’t want to be blamed for his failure. Why doesn’t he pick on some other religion?”

“Well Moti, when Donald Trump said that if he loses the election, Jewish people would have a lot to do with it. He’s wanted to scapegoat us.”

“Mommy, what’s a scapegoat?”

“It’s when a person is blamed for something bad that someone else has done. It’s like the woman who has a fight with her boyfriend and when she gets home she kicks her dog. Her dog is her scapegoat.”

“So Mommy, Trump’s treating us Jews as his dog. A dog he can kick any time he wants to.”

“Yes Moti, we’re his scapegoat just like the Jews were Hitler’s scapegoat for Germany’s loss in World War I.”

“Mommy, so you think Trump is a bad guy?”

“Yes Moti, a real bad guy and he makes me so mad and so sad.”

“Well Mommy, let’s hope he loses the election.”
