More than Wards (Words)
One of my favourite ballads by the band ‘Extreme’ has the following lyrics:
More than words is all you have to do to make it real
Then you wouldn’t have to say that you love me
‘Cause I’d already know
In the case of the David Ward MP, I don’t need more than words to make it real, as we know he don’t love me and my fellow Jewish people, ’cause we already know. Here is Mr. Ward’s latest quote on Friday night:
It’s not the first, not the 2nd and probably not the last time that that we see offensive comments by David Ward MP. He doesn’t even try to hide the antisemitic subtext – the issue here is not the persecution of Roma but Mr. Ward’s annoyance with the work and success of the Board of Deputies of British Jews in promoting the interests of the Jewish community.
Mr Ward compared the Holocaust to the Palestinian issue just before the Holocaust Memorial Day in January and later spoke about ‘The Jews’. His party showed a clear lack of spine when not taking the whip off him after the first incident and then suspending him during the summer recess.
If the Lib-Dems took the issue seriously , they would have taken the whip off Mr. Ward permanently and suspend him from the party, making him understand that such comments are not welcome. By acting the way they did, they legitimised such comments and their recurrence.
I have no big hopes to see a different response this time from the Lib-Dems, and since they systematically break promises made to their voters, I won’t hold my breath. Maybe it’s time for David Ward MP to follow in the footsteps of his colleague Jenny Tonge and resign from his party?
