News Items that you do NOT see

I still like to read an actual newspaper every day. I like the feel of the paper, the smell of the newsprint and (because of a fantastic 8th grade teacher — thanks Mrs. Herwitz!) I learned to really enjoy the daily paper. I still pore over news sites online for news and updates, but my day begins with the paper.

Quite often, that paper finds itself strewn on the floor in a heap, tossed there out of frustration. The blatant anti-Semitism, the hatred of Israel, the injustice of the world opinion against Jews and Israel, the BDS movement etc, all add up to a very frustrating daily song that is set on “replay” on an endless loop.

I also see on a daily basis, the stories of complete reckless abandon with which human life is treated around the world. A market bomb kills over 100; a suicide bomber kills people at a mosque; US marines are murdered; Boko Haram, ISIS, Al Qaeda, Hamas, Hizzbulla – they are all the same and all profess no value in life; death means everything to these terror organizations. As I read the paper, I see the articles every day in which scores of people are murdered by these terrorists. I get to the point that I expect to see these stories every day, the only difference is the location or the number murdered.

And then there are the stories you do NOT see…not because they are not reported, but because they do not occur:

1. YOU WILL NEVER READ: Jewish terrorist blows self up on bus killing dozens of Arabs!

2. YOU WILL NEVER READ: Jewish terrorist fires on a crowded market killing many!

3. YOU WILL NEVER READ: Jews capture 150 Muslim girls; tell them they either convert to Judaism or die!

4. YOU WILL NEVER READ: Jews take underage girls and sell them as slaves.

5. YOU WILL NEVER READ: Jewish terrorists fly plane into two huge towers in Abu Dhabi killing thousands!

We do not see any of these kinds of acts because this is not who we are. Yes, of course, there are those who act “outside the pale” but, unlike when there is a Muslim act of terror, the Jewish perpetrator is vilified by nearly everyone. When there is such an act, justice is called for to be swift and speeches are made to thwart the possibility that there will be others who will want to emulate such an act. The blow back is swift, palpable and effective. (Witness the very public outcry against the murderers of Abu Khdeir)

With VERY little exception, when attacks take place by Muslim terrorists, there are no huge demonstrations in the world saying that this is not what Islam is about. There are no calls from Imams in a united front stating that this is wrong and must stop. In these cases, the silence from the Muslim world is deafening.

No, thank G-d, these are not the kind of headlines we see about Jews. So, why is it that when terrorists murder in the name of Islam that the world is silent?
