Obama’s World War Three
While America stays busy Facebook-posting links to Beyonce, cuddly kittens and wedding selfies, the world has crossed a thin red line into the first irrevocable stages of World War Three.
The Third World War will be no less than a mass rolling one-way slaughter of unparallelled ferocity. And it will not stop at the eastern shores of the Mediterranean but pour into Africa, Asia, Europe and, yes, American shores.
Radical Islam is coming. Isis. Al Queda. Hezbollah. Hamas. Boko Harem. Islamic Jihad. And presiding over it all, Iran, replete with long-range missiles, soon to be armed with nuclear warheads. It comes killing everyone in its path, Muslim, Christian and Jew alike. White, Brown and Black. Men. Women. Children. War without mercy or end.
It had been coming even before 9/11. But with the exception of Israel’s military establishment, whose warnings to the West fell on deaf ears, few took note. When 9/11 struck, the George W. Bush White House had no real idea of what precisely had occurred or how to respond or of what might come next. Nothing like 9/11 had ever hit American soil, or, for that matter, any shore.
In a single act of Islamic Fundamentalist terror, at the foot of cosmopolitan Manhattan, the very heart of the financial world, 2,977 innocents were incinerated, suffocated, crushed or driven by flames to plunge from the upper floors of the tallest buildings in the world.
Certainly, someone like formerAmerican Secretary of State Colin Powell, who once led the Joint Chiefs of Staff, would have known, tactically-speaking, what to do. But Powell declined a leadership role, and now, looking back, who can blame him? What was there to lead? A nation consumed by Self, that believes in the reality of Tweets but cannot grasp the realities of war, or make the right decisions.
So, without really knowing why, with the inept triumverate of Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld at the helm, Washington invaded the wrong nation–Iraq– and in so doing opened the gates of Hell. Rocked by financial scandal, a Depression that was called a Recession, and by the crude social and cultural usurpations of an arrogant technological elite, America went reeling from firing slip to bankruptcy and never really found its feet, let alone to grasp what lay ahead. If the nation didn’t know what it wanted, nonetheless it demanded, prematurely, the end of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. News reports of American soldiers fallen in combat for the defense of their nation don’t make for clever quips on social media.
America, while binge-watching HBO, yet sensed, ever-so-remotely, the coming Islamic Fundamentalist tide but naively believed, at some subliminal level, that by electing a non-white progressive President –one bearing a Muslim name no less– the appeased Third World’s malcontents and militants would surely trade in their Kalashnikovs and RPGS for Nike and Abercrombie. In the thinking of the Obama/Silicon Valley set, no militant fundamentalist, despite homicidal outrage at all things Western, would refuse the Ipad life–a thousand apps at your fingertips– over attacking helpless villagers in those weaponized Toyota pick-up trucks known as ‘Technicals’–you know, the ones mounted in back with MILAN anti-tank guided missiles and heavy machine guns?
So the Google elite and their faithful vigorously campaigned to have Barack Obama – the first internet-elected President– installed in the White House. They pounded the American electorate with messages of peace and reconciliation through expanding technology and economic diplomacy. The village it once took to remake the world remade itself into Silicon Valley. And as America withdrew into virtual reality the Islamic militants, sensing opportunity, proceeded to conceive of war designs more ambitious then even they had dared to previously imagine. Why stop at bringing the True Way to ones own land? Let’s invade and convert by sword and fire the entire Western World.
Insane? Sure. Impossible? No more then Hitler’s campaign for global domination.
We now know in retrospect that Hitler despised and played for fool Britain’s accommodating Prime Minister, Neville Chamberlain. We can well imagine how, similarly, the leaders of the Muslim radicals—particularly in Iran– laughed in their sleeves at America’s election to president of Barack Obama.
Chamberlain, whose endless postponements of military action against Nazi intransigence paved the way for Hitler’s world war, now appears to have been a tough-minded realist by comparison with the current American president. At the very least, Chamberlain conceded that he had been tricked. Not so Obama, who to the bitter end clings to his ineffectual policies as innocents perish and the world burns.
In response to Syrian atrocities against civilians, Obama does nothing. Responding to Hamas’ kidnapping and murder of Israeli children, and unleashed fusillades of missiles against Israeli cities, Obama not only criticizes Israel but seeks accommodation with Hamas and tries to get their salaries paid. In response to the downing by Putin-backed rebels of a Malaysian airliner over Ukraine, Obama expresses ‘Outrage’ and does nothing. In response to the kidnapping of schoolgirls by Boko Haram, Obama sends a handful of ‘advisers’ to Northeast Nigeria and hopes that time will make the whole mess just disappear. (To date, the schoolgirls remain missing, in all likelihood raped and murdered or sold into slavery). Against, Iran’s aggressive pursuit of nuclear arms Obama urges round after round of fruitless sanctions and inspections while persisting in diplomacy that results only in Tehran coming ever-closer to the nuclear capability it relentlessly seeks. And in response to the ISIS massacre, crucifixions and beheadings of thousands of innocent Iraqi men, women and children Obama sends a few aircraft to fly limited sorties against militant positions, and makes chest-beating pronouncements on T.V. about stopping genocide.
Never in the history of the modern era has a world leader proved less able to make clear, firm leadership choices than President Barack Obama. It is not that the challenges facing him are so tough such that any sort of leader might balk. It is that he hasn’t the makings of a leader at all. Clearly out of his depth, he is incapable of delivering crucial decisions that will defend America and the free world.
