Olmert: the light shining through the darkness

Israel’s ex-Prime Minister is jailed for 6 years for bribery: justice being done and being seen to be done in Israel, a country with the rule of law, human rights, freedom of worship, women’s rights, gay rights and democracy as part of the foundations on which she stands proud. Olmert has brought shame on the country but our justice system, our zero tolerance position on corruption in public office (the ‘ideal’, not always in evidence) and our compliance with the rule of law all ensure that Israel’s light still shines and that the filth in Israeli politics will not dim that light.
