On errant souls

I’ve written about God punishing fanatics in the afterlife by making them ridiculous. There’s another scenario. A sudden death of a Z-patriot, a Hamas member, anyone with the mindset of a zealot or a true believer who wants to see all those who don’t fit into his or her world dead or enslaved. It’s said that people who die suddenly don’t know they’re dead at first. Makes sense. But what happens after that realization hits them? The fanatic might continue to believe whatever he or she had been brainwashed to believe or there might be a moment of doubt, clarity, even anger.

The true believer in the cause might see that he or she had been brainwashed and betrayed. That the cause was never about some higher ideals. It was all about money and power for senior leadership. That’s when anger and a desire for revenge sets in. The true believer becomes the sworn enemy of what he or she stood for. A Russian fascist and propagandist who truly thought she was doing the right thing sees all the genocidal destruction she had helped bring about. She is hit with guilt so hard, she can only cry. People rarely, if ever, think of themselves as evil. Look at the Nazis.

Fanatics always have a good explanation as to why they do what they do. Look at any regime and any cult. These people, the true believers, are convinced they are doing what must be done. Dying suddenly and seeing the aftermath might be enough to shock them into waking up in terms of what they believe and what they’ve done with their lives. A blessing in disguise.

The errant soul might then look for a new home. Someone that resonates with that soul. A new parent that is likely somewhat similar to the past parent. If the past parent was a philosopher, the errant soul is going to look for someone with a similar profile but with significant differences out of curiosity or out of spite. Someone smarter. Someone more practical. For example, a Russian fascist’s soul might decide she wants to try out living in a Polish home. One, because on some level, her imperialism is still there and living in the Polish home would, in a way, fulfill her objectives by ”invading” the Polish space and learning more about ”the enemy.” And two, there’s no reason to assume that as spirits, we lose our personality traits completely, so authoritarian types are going to look for their next leader or parent to worship and mimic or just for them to guide the errant soul.

And then, the errant soul might try to engineer events for it to be incarnated into that family or stay in the afterlife and wait for his or her ”chosen one” to join them. Now, the errant soul is likely going to announce itself at some point. The smarter the spirit, the more options there are. Synchronicities, signs, whatever. Of course, if one is an atheist then it’s all nonsense. Maybe it is. It’s fun to theorize sometimes and go beyond the established in our thinking. That’s how humanity moves forward. If the new parent rejects the errant soul, the soul could get violent, particularly if the spirit is used to terrorizing to get what it wants. If the new parent or partner accept the errant soul, then there will be calm. We all watched movies about haunted houses, how spirits have preferences as to who stays in a particular house. I can certainly see errant souls doing just that by, for example, ensuring that the house they like stays in the hands of a particular owner. Metaphysical mumbo-jumbo? Well, you are in the marketplace of ideas. If you don’t like it, move on.

Going back to imperialism, it’s good to use the Kafkaesque description when explaining what imperialism is. For example, somewhere out there in the multiverse, there’s a Russia where tennis in high heels is a national sport. And there’s a teenage girl called Maria who’s a really angry and popular tennis player. Turns out, she was actually a genius Pole who had been snatched from another reality, cursed and russified, then forced into tennis. The Russians know this and often point out how Maria’s anger works to her benefit to bring glory to Russia by being the best tennis player in the world. The Russians had just plucked the Pole out of his life and forced a new life onto him for ”popularizing Russophobia.” That’s how Russian imperialism, or any imperialism, works. It denies agency and knows what’s best for everyone. Including who will live and who will die.

While I’m not even remotely trying to justify what regime fanatics do, we must bear in mind that living in a society that’s basically a giant cult means a lot of these zealots truly believe they are doing something good. That they are warriors of the light. On some level, they are victims as well – they just don’t know it. If someone truly believes all Jews are ”devils” and all Ukrainians are ”Nazis” then no wonder he or she might resort to gleeful brutality. Now, if we’re dealing with total psychopaths who know full well they are spouting nonsense and revel in violence – I sincerely hope God is either going to give them a conscience so they are hit hard with guilt or they just cease to exist, as they are never going to contribute anything positive to the world, be it in this life or in the afterlife.

So, maybe there are errant souls flying around right now and looking for their new homes. Maybe that’s a form of cleansing for them, a mirror showing them the error of their ways.

From my lips to God’s ears. And get that Pole out of there, Lord. Please.
