Barah Shis ברא שית

brasheet01ajpg-1
airbrush/acrylic on canvas 30” x 40” (76 x 102 cm)

According to Jewish philosophy the world was created
ex nihilo by the Hebrew letters and words
of the Ten Divine Utterances
in the first chapter of Genesis
and in particular the first word Bereishis בראשית
which is the subject of the entire Tikunei Zohar.
There the various permutations of its letters
are examined and explicated and one of them can be read
Barah Shis ברא שית
He created Six (or Foundation)
which is the source of inspiration
for this work and the one below.

Each of the 22 Hebrew Scribal Letters is a specific modality
through which the spiritual influx enters reality
and their written “form” hints as to how
they appear in their source above as celestial energies:
“Black Fire on White Fire”.

The Birth of Eve

aabirthofevemixed materials on canvas 40″ x 30″ (102 x 76 cm)

Eve was created from Adam’s rib, צלה
which also can mean in Hebrew: Shadow.
How a man views the opposite sex
is a shadow of his own self-esteem.

Eve and the Serpent

The confrontation of Eve and the Serpent is one
of the most mysterious “stories” of the Bible
and is the subject of many deep studies.
The serpent נחש has the same gematria (358)
and is connected to the Messiah משיח,
who will rectify this mundane world,
which is called by the Kabbalah,
the “Skin of the Serpent”, משכא דחויא
releasing all of its holy sparks
and trapped energies.
