Parshat Vayera: Kingship in the least likely of places
In this week’s parsha GOD destroys the wicked cities of Sdom and Amora. There is an interesting statement in the Talmud regarding these cities regarding how King Dovid (Dovid Hamelech) (as told to me by my Rebbe Rav Herschel Reichman Shlitta which he quoted from the Chasidish work of Rav Shmuel Borenstein the Shem Meshmuel) was born in Sdom. Additionally, we know the Moschiach will be a descendant of Dovid and this therefore, means that Moshiach’s roots stem from Sdom as well.
There are many ways which this statement in the Talmud can be interpreted. Either way it connotes that Moschiach, who in the future will lead the way towards the ultimate salvation of the Jewish people and all of mankind, has roots in one of the most wicked cities of all time!
From here we can learn a powerful lesson that even in the least likely of places, even if the place or person is very wicked has the potential to achieve greatness.
May we always remember the tremendous greatness we are capable of achieving leading us to one of the greatest of leaders ultimately saving us in the days of Moschiach may he come speedily in our days.
