Pay-to-Slay? DAYENU !

Once again a Palestinian terrorist has raised his ugly head. 26 year old Ala Quab’ha from a village near Jenin in the West Bank (Judea and Samaria) drove his car and rammed it into four Israeli soldiers who were standing near a highway.

Two of the soldiers were killed instantly. The third is in critical condition in Beilinson hospital and the fourth is being treated for wounds.

Ala Quab’ha will receive a “reward” in cash from Hamas and the Palestinian Authority who praise the bravado of the young terrorist. It’s called the program of Pay-to-Slay. Get money for every Jew you can kill.

How will Israel respond?  Probably as we have responded in past to terrorist activities. Members of his family will be interrogated, the family home will be demolished, and those family members who have permits to work in Israel will have those permits revoked. And the family will continue to live happily ever after in a home that they will re-build..

At the Passover seder, one of the popular songs we sing is called DAYENU. It means “enough !”

And we have a moral and spiritual obligation to demand from our government and its legislators that the death penalty which is on our law books but used only once to hang the Nazi war criminal, Adolf Eichmann, should…must… be amended to allow for the death penalty by hanging for every convicted Arab terrorist.  DAYENU !  It’s ENOUGH !

From the former thirty-year British Mandate in then Palestine we have borrowed British Common law which is employed in all our courts. But we have failed in one major respect, one that the British used often and without hesitation. People refer to it as “collective punishment”.

The British authorities held the leaders of Palestinian Arab villages and towns responsible for any act of hostility leading to the death of a British soldier. After a terrorist was found guilty and executed, the British enacted a penalty on the entire Arab village. The mukhtar was held personally responsible for preventing his people from committing acts of terrorism.

We MUST do the very same today. Every head of an Arab community should be informed that he and his town or village will be held responsible for any crime worthy of a death sentence upon any person from the community who is found guilty of the crime.

Too many Jews are “do-gooders”. They have sympathy for wrong-doers. They blame it upon an unhappy childhood or a failed marriage. They prefer psychiatric care and imprisonment over the taking of “innocent ???” Palestinian lives. I have not yet had the “pleasure” of meeting an “innocent” Palestinian.

They all, everyone of them, shout the hateful cry “itbach al yahud”… kill all the Jews. And terrorists respond to the call, preached often by imams in the Muslim mosques !

DAYENU !  ENOUGH ! Every pay-to-slay perpetrator not killed during his crime, must be arrested and brought into a military court where the sentence of death by hanging can be pronounced by a military judge. Not a “do-gooder” judge but one who knows the law and who extracts harsh punishment in addition to the demolition of the terrorist’s family home.

I support Lieberman’s call to demand the death penalty for those accused of terrorist crimes and I sincerely hope that enlightened members of our Knesset  (yes…there are a few of them)  will vote to use the law already on our books which permits the penalty of death.

And I encourage our Israeli public to demand it from the government.  March with posters reading

“Mavet l’Chablanim”… Death to Terrorists.

Perhaps if it attracts sufficient media interest, vox populi…the voice of the people will be heard shouting loud and clear:

DAYENU !  ENOUGH !
