Peace with Iran
Yesterday I wrote on this blog that Trump was not sensitive to Israeli concerns about Iran. However, yesterday Trump called Netanyahu and afterwards said that they are on the same side of every issue.
Without being privy to what is said behind closed doors, we don’t know for sure what’s happening. Nevertheless, it could be that things are moving in an optimum direction.
The US has moved bombers and a second aircraft carrier to the region, and has intensified sanctions against Iran, thus applying much pressure on Iran to make a deal, potentially even a deal that would satisfy Israel. Some analysts feel that the story about Israeli plans to bomb Iran next month, and Trump telling Israel that he won’t support it, was meant to scare Iran.
Also, Iran’s faltering economy and the discontent of many of its citizens, make the prospects of a deal (which would remove sanctions, and promote foreign investment) very tempting for the regime.
It’s difficult to predict what will happen in this quickly changing world.
Which is why trust in the Almighty that it will be good, and that the world is headed toward peace in the Middle East (with more Arab countries possibly joining the Abrahamic Accords), can give us added assurance and peace of mind.
Perhaps this is a time when world peace will finally be achieved, a time when “the world will be filled with knowledge of G-d, just as the waters cover the sea.” (Isaiah 11; 9)
When Israel will be secure in its G-d given land, and all will recognize G-d’s justness and benevolence.
A time when everyone will get along.
A time of the complete Redemption with Moshiach.
May it happen very soon.
