Permanent Palestinian Refugee Status and a Post-modern “Holocaust”

The UN acknowledged the need for the remnant of Europe’s Jews to have a safe haven after the world willfully ignored the mass murder of Jews. No one had wanted them in Europe and it wasn’t much better in North America. My country, Canada, said no to the Jews: “None are too many.” The United States  wasn’t welcoming in 1939 when Jews were already being sent to concentration camps.

In 1947 the UN mandated the return of the remnant of European Jews  to their homeland, the land of their ancestors, while another Arab nation was also decreed-Palestine. But five Arab countries attacked the nascent state in 1948 in an attempt to annihilate her. They lost. And 700,000 Arabs left or forced to flee became refugees. When this war was over instead of resettling these people as all other refugees from all other wars had been resettled, the UN gave them permanent refugee status.

The Palestinian permanent refugee status plan is turning out to be an insidious seed of destruction. A festering wound opening the door to destroying Israel and attacking the Jews with impunity. Keep the refugees perpetual victims, accuse Israel of being the aggressor, and so make legitimate all the attacks against her- from BDS, to European countries calling for the formation of Palestine based on the 1967 borders-borders that can’t be defended against those who declare in their charter that Israel must be destroyed.

This perpetual festering wound, nurtured by the UN through the actions of UNRWA gives the anti-Semites in our world a legitimacy that has been missing since the end of WWII. Seventy years after the Christian world, not just the Nazis, colluded in the murder of 6 million Jews and the disbursement of millions of others, the “down-trodden Palestinians” are the justification for the contempt of the United Church of Canada, the Presbyterian Church in the USA, the European leaders toward Israel and their desire to agree to the demands of people who want the death of Israel.

I wrote not too long ago that it is no longer beyond belief for another Shoah.

We are in it. We just don’t recognize it as this one is different. This is not a 20th century Holocaust where our people are shot and dropped into trenches, covered with lye and dirt, layer upon layer. Or herded into cattle cars, taken to crematoria and sent up in smoke and cinders-their ashes floating down onto and into the ground of Europe. This isn’t the era of Mengele. No this is different.

This is the 21st century version-Holocaust 2.0. This is an attempt by far too many anti-Semites-Christians, Muslims, atheists-to destroy Israel: by denouncing her as an apartheid state; accusing her of committing crimes against humanity; blaming Israel for the lack of a peace treaty and no peace in the Middle East. This is the post-modern Holocaust. Not with gas chambers and crematoria but with words and policies.

Europe is not rounding up its Jews into ghettos, or shooting them or burning them. They aren’t reverting to their old ways of inquisitions, persecutions, pogroms or expulsions. No, this time they are making life so unbearable for the Jews in their countries that the Jews are leaving-Europe is once again becoming Judenrein. Removing Jews was the reason the world and in particular Europe turned a blind eye to the horror of Nazi Germany. Why so many countries assisted the Nazis in removing the Jews from their land- most by the sin of commission but others by the sin of omission.

By the end of WWII “the demographic focus of European Jewry shifted from eastern to western Europe.”  The Jewish people thought they had found a safe haven there.” And “hundreds of thousands (of other Jews) established new lives in Israel, the United States, Canada, Australia, Great Britain, South America, and South Africa” thinking they too would no longer be hunted just for being Jews.

And here we are 70 years after the Shoah and Jew hatred is permitted under the guise of attacking Israel (where approximately half the Jews of the world are living) for not accepting the return of “refugees” now 6 million in number, and not agreeing to the terms demanded by the people who started the wars and lost and still speak to her extermination. Can you imagine the Japanese demanding terms from America or the Nazis from the Allies or the American Confederacy from the Union Army? NO. Why the Jews then? Why are all the concessions demanded from them?

These attacks on Israel today are not by fringe groups. They come from “respected” main stream media blaming Israel for unrest in the Middle East and terrorism. And the Jew-hatred, the anti-Jewish bias, the vitriol is spread at the speed of light through social media. According to Richard Engel-yes a Jew-“There’s a whole history of why people are getting radicalized. It goes back to U.S. support for Israel [and] what’s considered to be a war against Islam.”

And politicians from Western democracies attack the Jews “Today, as Swedish MP Hillevi Larsson happily and ignorantly poses for a picture with a map of “Palestine” that erases Israel, as the Irish demand that no mention be made of the Jewish State during a Holocaust memorial, as a British MP stands on the floor of his Parliament and says that ‘you cannot appeal to the Israelis’ better nature, because they do not have one.’”

There’s rabid anti-semitism in Sweden especially Malmo.

“According to France’s Protection of the Jewish Community, anti-Semitic occurrences in the 2000s are seven times higher than in the 1990s.” And in Paris the hate is visceral.

In the Al Nusra mosque in Berlin on July 11, Danish imam Abu Bilal Ismail “urged God “to destroy the Zionist Jews … to kill every last one of them and not have pity on any of them … Shake the ground under their feet, make them suffer.” He also said Jews “act like sole rulers of the entire world and disseminate corruption.”

In the Hague voices are heard screaming various incantations of “death to Jews”

“Among reports of attacks on synagogues in the UK, a report commissioned by the Mayor of London revealed that 95% of hate crimes against faith groups in the capital, which have surged by 23% compared to last year, were anti-Semitic.”

And in Copenhagen, Denmark a Jewish group demonstrating in support for Israel and peace in the Middle East could not be protected. “The police couldn’t guarantee any longer the security of the participants in the rally, due to increasing threats from young Muslim troublemakers who were clustering in ever louder and violent groups nearby and even driving past in their cars shouting anti-Semitic slogans and waving Hamas flags,” and several young men shouted “f**king Jews” at the demonstrators.

“In Italy, Jewish shop windows in Rome have been defaced with swastikas and tags reading “torch the synagogues” and “Jews your end is near”.

In Australia anti-Semitism is on the rise, especially since Gaza attacked Israel. Anti-Semitic flyers were dropped in the mailboxes of private homes in Jewish suburbs in Sydney. A gang of drunken youths traumatized Jewish kids on a school bus in Sydney hurling anti-Semitic slurs while threatening to slit their throats.

In my own country, Canada, we have cries of Heil Hitler; IN MY COUNTRY. That was OK because calls for death to the Jews had already been heard in Toronto-the capital city of Ontario.

And then there is America. “U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said Tuesday that the United States has not “made any determinations” regarding how it would deal with United Nations resolutions on ending the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.” The country that prides itself on defending freedom isn’t quite sure how it will respond to the demands of “Palestine” a place filled with terrorists and a charter to exterminate Israel? They can’t quite decide whether or not to defend the only democratic and Jewish country in the area. I find it hard to believe that the USA would not defend a democracy…

Yes, there are Christian and Muslim voices standing up for Israel but their voices are overpowered by the voices of Jew-haters.

What was the UN thinking when they planted a mustard seed of  victim-hood right beside the nascent Jewish state, the only state dedicated to the safety of Jews world-wide? Were they thinking that it could lead to another world-wide attack on Jews?
