Portrait of a “Centrist”
Let’s face it we don’t have a clue.
We tried the war thing and that didn’t work and then we tried the peace thing and that didn’t work either. So the only thing I know for sure is that anyone who says they do know how to sort this mess out is a liar.
More settlements won’t help us but negotiating a state with the Palestinians will just give us another Gaza but right in our heartland. You don’t need to be a product manager in a start up to realize that’s not a good option for us. So I say let them build until they figure out a long term solution.
I pay my bills and I do my reserve duty and I don’t understand why I can’t rely on the government to take care of all of this for me. Sure there are some crazies who want to live in the weirdest places of the West Bank, so let them. I even considered living in a settlement myself when I realised just how expensive living in a moshav was going to be.
The world is always going to be against us, at least the UN always will. It’s just politics, the Arab countries are all voting against us all the time so there you are. But it’s fine, the United States will always veto everything anyway. What I can’t understand is why cream cheese is so damn expensive? I don’t even eat Milky but the kids do and I had to get a friend to buy my iPad for me in New York because the price of everything here is just so ridiculous.
Ultimately everyone knows how this is going to end. We’ll withdraw from most of the West Bank except for areas of the big settlement blocs and the Palestinians will be compensated with land swaps from other parts of the country. Really I think we should throw in the heavily Arab parts of the triangle. But that’s a bit too Lieberman for me to say in public.
I don’t think anyone would disagree with me when I say we can’t carry on like this for much longer. We need a solution one way or the other. The Gaza war this Summer for example was terrible. Rockets even made it all of the way over to Netanya and I had tickets to the Neil Young concert that was cancelled. It makes me doubt that there’s a future here.
I wish I knew who to vote for in the next elections but it’s hardly as though any of these parties know what they’re doing. Taxes are so high that I would have a hard time making the monthly payments on my Nissan Juke were it not for the fact that I got a raise this year.
All we want to do is live our lives. Isn’t there a single politician able to just take care of this mess?
