Critiquing Ireland's "anti-Zionist" mindset

‘Provocation Is Ideal Fuel for Creativity…’

Irish band Kneecap recently led Coachella crowds in chanting “F*ck Israel” and “Free Palestine.” Why did they do that? And just who are Kneecap anyway?

That Irish hip hop trio originate from West Belfast, an Irish republican stronghold. Their sinister name comes from terrorist torture tactics of bullet-blowing kneecaps to smithereens – due to ‘anti-social activities’.

The band (sometimes) wear sinister face masks, usually associated with the Provisional IRA. IRA paramilitaries were part of the ethno-nationalist conflict in Northern Ireland, from the late 1960s to the 1998 Good Friday Agreement. A majority of the three thousand and seven hundred people  murdered were IRA victims. (1)

Kneecap’s use of Irish language lyrics is an interesting choice of delivery. Our national language was successfully eviscerated by didactic educational policies. Most Irish urbanites now despise their ancient native tongue. In Northern Ireland the Irish language has become a hot political issue. (2)

Palestinian flags fly at Kneecap concerts. The band encourage audiences to boycott Israel. Such partisan political gestures on social media, network TV and concert stages waves an anti-Semitic flag in the faces of most social democracy moderates. (3)

Ironically, Kneecap talk about “deconstructing the systems that have created all this poverty, sectarianism, hatred and murder…” But troubling questions arise about their recent Coachella concert, where the band fomented antagonistic anti-Israeli rhetoric. To say nothing of complete simplistic silence about Hamas’ hatred of Jews and the recent murdering of protestors in Gaza.

Kneecap’s visually spectacular and sectarian stage light show would have cost a lot of money. Who funded it? The festival organisers or the band’s mammoth-sized management company? Why did the music festival management allow such blatant pro-Palestinian / anti-Israel propaganda?

The band’s expletive anti-Semitic language contradicted Coachella’s multi-claused code of conduct statement: that the festival is: ‘…committed to creating a safe, comfortable, and family-friendly experience for our guests.’

Among the supposedly strictly-enforced rules for concert goers, there is zero toleration towards ‘taunting, abusive, or disruptive language and obscene or offensive gestures, imagery, or symbolism…’ https://coachella.com/faq#health-safety

But when it comes to expletive-excessive punk performers, Coachella permits free-pass privilege. So much for rock and roll diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). As for any vulnerable Jewish concert attendees, well, too bad for them…

Provocation is ideal fuel for creativity, but in a world that runs on outrage, intent often gets burned into exhaust fumes. There are clear benefits to accepting that trade-off, as Kneecap have seen first hand; and while they don’t seem at all interested in toning down their act, they are perhaps getting wary of being misunderstood.’ (4)

The band’s claim of being potentially “misunderstood” is pure smoke-and-mirrors sophistry. In regards to their anti-semitism, they help sow dangerous division by their Protocol-paranoid, political misrepresentation of the Middle East.

Kneecap are one of many anti-Semitic, agitprop rock bands that distort the contentious issues of Gaza. What is needed to counter the current toxic political zeitgeist is for white westerners to be prepared to parse some unbiased, empirical  investigative journalism.

Research parameters could posit many scenarios, such as:

  1. What repressive theocratic regimes are funding this tendentious, long-running antisemitic campaign?
  2. Who are the political quislings hiding in plain sight?
  3. How will this malicious maelstrom peacefully conclude…?

Throughout its biblical narrative, the nation of Israel has frequently encountered numerous adversaries, both external and internal, those who opposed God’s chosen people. According to Torah and New Testament, it won’t always be so!

My God! Rescue me from my enemies,
    defend me from these mutineers.
Rescue me from their dirty tricks,
save me from their hit men’.
