Qork Partners With The Best of Austin Blogs to Create the Ultimate #SXSW “as-it-happens” News Resource
One of the cool things I get to do in my role as Brand Ambassador for the Rackspace Startups Program in Israel is connect with really cool companies that are founded and run by nice and fun people.
When I met Qork’s Adam May and Ben Goldman at the Siftech Accelerator which is housed at the JVP Media Quarter, I was immediately taken by their energy and vision of helping users discover and create the best local content.
Partnering with the Best of Austin Blogs to Create the Ultimate SXSW Experience
Finding the best local content in your area can be a challenge no matter where you are, and starting this coming Friday, if you are headed to SXSW, you will get a chance to really experience the but the problem is compounded with large-scale events like SXSW, where the sheer amount of things to do can become overwhelming.
Qork, which aims to become the go-to portal for local content, has partnered with a number of the best Austin blogs and news sites in order to bring a curated stream of SXSW news to users at the festival including:
- The Austinot
- 365 Things to Do in Austin
- South Austin Foodie
- Bitch Beer
- Brightest Young Things
- Bishop & Rook
Simply by opening Qork in Austin, users gain access to a special SXSW stream that includes content from sites such as listed below. At press time, other leading Austin sites were in the works.
All of the content is curated by the Qork team to ensure relevancy, and includes news on parties, nightlife, restaurant specials, sessions, screenings, and more essential SXSW info.
The Qork team will also be on-the-ground at the festival to promote the app and cover all the latest SXSW happenings.
In addition to pulling content from partner sites, Qork allows users to upload their own content, or “qorks,” as well as engage in conversations with other locals.
Users can also see a list of the most influential users at SXSW, and themselves influence which local stories go viral by upvoting or downvoting qorks.
The end result is a local social news platform that provides a realtime snapshot of the SXSW experience.
