‘Remarkable’ would be Netanyahu’s resignation and accountability for 10/7

PM calls Trump’s Gaza plan ‘remarkable’; Katz tells IDF to prep for voluntary emigration

“This is the first good idea that I’ve heard,” Netanyahu said in an interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity. “It’s a remarkable idea.”

What’s ‘remarkable’ is that anybody thinks Trump’s pronouncement about turning Gaza into an international seaside resort – but without Palestinians – is remotely coherent, doable…or humane. This would also be a gift to his son in law, Jared Kushner, who has mused in the past about the international draw he sees in development of Gazan seaside property but, again, free of Gazan citizens.

Trump is deeply ignorant, refuses briefings, and reads minimally. His only skill is feeding a (largely) cowed, breathless corporate media. He is not a ‘friend of Israel’ but sponsored by and a ‘friend of’ Christian Zionism and aligned evangelicals whose future for Israel is also devoid of Jews as they work out the mythical biblical conditions for the return of ‘jesus.’ Christian Zionists also support Netanyahu and Jewish settler movements.

Frankly, I seriously doubt Trump could accurately identify Israel on a map which doesn’t include the names of all the different countries. Trump has the attention span of a coked up squirrel conjuring up his next attention grabbing outrageous headline as soon as the last exhausts the news cycle. He has no capacity for planning or forethought other than following the wishes of his primary sponsors and generating immediate attention. Chaos is left in Trump’s wake.

Relocation of all Palestinians in Gaza is a truly awful idea and Netanyahu’s embrace of it will continue Israel’s slide into a full blown pariah status. Those who are ‘celebrating’ Trump’s ludicrous off the cuff comments with regards to Gaza are as deeply confused as is Trump. And there is no nation, or persons paying attention other than the self destructive Jewish Supremacists in Netanyahu’s coalition government, who ‘love’ Trump’s idea.

There is also no nation, the least of which being Lebanon, Jordan or Egypt, who would welcome back large numbers of restive Palestinian citizens. Both Lebanon and Jordan, in particular, have their own violent history with their Palestinian citizens.

West Bank Palestinians carried Jordanian passports until the late 1980s when Jordan arbitrarily ended this status. It’s a shame Trump is so blithely unaware of these geopolitical realities. Netanyahu, of course, is quite familiar and should be fully aware how nonsensical and deadly is Trump’s absurd ‘solution.’

A reality is that the majority of Gazan, and West Bank, Palestinians aren’t going anywhere. Large numbers are returning to and putting up tents at their often pulverized homes. This means that until an honest, thoughtful, and mutually compatible solution is identified, the never ending violence will only continue and, likely, continue to increase from both sides to the other

What Trump and Netanyahu should offer is to give all members of Hamas safe passage out of Gaza towards ending their violent occupation of that tortured enclave to include immediately freeing every single hostage whether alive or deceased.

Trump’s new plan, so applauded by Netanyahu and his extremist coalition, seems to fully overlook the hostages thereby exponentially increasing their risk of being further brutalized and murdered.

What would truly be ‘remarkable’ is if Netanyahu resigned and took his Jewish Supremacist coalition with him. What would be more remarkable, still, is if Netanyahu were to be held fully accountable for his part in 10/7 and the extreme, excessive and ‘over the top’ brutality he unleashed in Gaza.
